Calais CL100A VS CORE 50MG

Featured Replies

I am placing my order this week for my new rods and reels. I a unsure of waht reel to pick up. It will be used for:

-shalllow cranks 0-6

-medium cranks 6-12

-topwater

-hard jerkbaits

I am replacing my Curado E5 because i find it too slow. The calais is 5.8 24ipt and the core is 7.0 28 ipt. It will be on a cumara reaction 7'0 MH mod/fast. What would you suggest?

For that purpose I would choose the Core, it won 't be as smooth as the Calais, but it will weight 3+ ounces less.

Yeah the weight factor is definetly pushing me towards the core

This is a tough decision.

Either would do the the job great. The core will be lighter and easier to palm for throwing jerkbaits.

The calais will be ultra smooth and to me has a better gear ratio for throwing those mid depth cranks.

I don't think you will be disappointed in either but my vote goes to the calais just because I love that reel so much.

I palmed them both the other day and i liked the way the core felt a little bit better due to weight and overall size but the calais felt crazy smooth casting a xrap.

Even though the Calais weighs more, it is a dreamy moving bait reel that is silky smooth and casts great.  I have both of these reels, and I use the Core for bottom contact baits and the Calais for moving baits.  I'd rather have the higher IPT for topwaters and jerkbaits, and the lower for the cranks.  For your purposes, it would be very hard to vote against the Calais.
