Flippin/pitchin reel

Featured Replies

Looking to get a set-up for flippin and pitchin (and double as a frog rod too). I was wondering what reel might be better suited. One with mag brakes or one with centif brakes? I have been considering the curado 200e7. any thoughts guys...

For my setup i use a powell 765 with a revo stx, and i must say that it is the most comfortable rod/reel i have ever held, I highly recommend a revo but ardent also makes a reel strictly for flippin' and pitchin', its designed by denny brauer, it looks good to,

The Curado is a very, very good reel but a Revo would just be so much better for heavy cover. Actually in that heavy cover and flipping and pitching is the only time I'd recommend any other reel than the Curado.

I'd go Revo STX,  ;)

Curious, why the revo over the curado? drag power, braking?

The revo has a smaller profile than the curado and is sooooo much smoother, and can pull 3oz sinkers with ease. if you can afford one get the stx and you wont regret it ;)

I was making the same decision a couple weeks ago. I ended up going with the Curado 201E7 instead of the STX.  I currently own both reels already and I think they would both do a fine job. I personally like the feel of the Curado in my hand a little better, also I like that the Curado has a bit wider spool. It think it has a better feel for pitching.  Either one would be great, just bring your rod and figure out which one feels the most comfortable when you grip it tight for a hard hookset and fight.
