What is a good beginners setup for flipping? Can I get a decent setup at Wal-Mart?   

Walmart sells the Abu Black Max.  It's a decent reel, and it now features a flipping switch.  Pair it up with one of the heavy Berkley Lightning Rods they sell, and you have a decent beginner flipping setup.

You can but unless it is all you can afford i wouldn't. Especially if you plan on doing a lot of flippin'. It is a technique that requires as much rod sensitivity and reel strength as possible(at least it is here). I would suggest the best you can afford.

I agree with Dink..also I prefer heavy braid when flippin in heavy cover.  Save uo, and get a decent rig if can't afford one now. Be on the lookout for used gear too..some good deals to be had, if you wait.

Thanks to all of you who responded. I'll bide my time and put out a little more money for a good setup. Maybe do some checking on Craigs List and E Bay.
