Citica 200E spare brake weights?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if there's a difference between the spare weights and the ones already in the reel?

I bought the Citica today to use for spinner baits. I've been looking through the papers that come with it and I can't find anything that states if there's a difference or not, even though they appear to be. I might have missed it but its bugging me to know.

The spares are heavier.  Its on the Shimano FAQ page.

Ahh ok, I didnt think to check out their website. I'll go there and check out what they say about them. Thanks for the reply.

Edit: Figure I'll post it here for others to see if they didn't know either.

Shimano makes two different break weights; Heavy (Black, Grey, or Green in color) and Light (Red, Blue, and Clear in color). Most of the new reels are shipped with the light break weights on the reel, and the heavy break weights in packaging in the box. If the light break weights don't provide adequate spool stopping power, change them simply by pulling them off of the spool and replace them with the heavier weights.

Thanks for posting that.  It never crossed my mind that the spares may be different.

Never used the spares, heck, I don't even use the ones that were in the reel.. ;D

you never installed them?

would taking them out equal less braking than if they were installed and in the 'off' position?

I would have to assume so. Even though they are not engaged they do still add weight to the spool which will slow it down some.

All things being equal, a heavier spool will rotate longer.  Start up will be slower.  My guess is the difference in weight will be negligible.

Heavy bait + factory installed brakes = spool at warp speed rotatation

Heavy weight + spare brakes = spool at impulse speed rotation.

I should have stated that, the brakes that came installed on the reel, were after a get use to the reel period, were deactivated, so the brakes are there, just not working.. :)  I like this set up alot for mainly flipping jigs that are 1/2oz or less.
