Fluorocarbon leader

Featured Replies

What line do you use as leader when fishing with braid? I tried the trilene 100% FC and did not like it.

Yeah, I had breakage problems with the 100% stuff, though it's o.k. for a light mainline..

Anyway, I went back to YoZuri Hybrid Ultrasoft..15lb test on 55 lb samuri braid, which has a diameter of 10 lb mono.

I just bought some Seaguar Invix fluro, wanted to try the Sunline Sniper, but they didn't have it..the Seaguar was 20.00 for 200 yds.. ;)

When I use a leader, I use 20# XPS fluorocarbon. The line will stay straight if you only use enough to fit between the rod tip and reel so none is wrapped on the reel at any time. About the most I use is 5' with 3'- 4' being the norm.

Why do you think you need a leader ? Are you fishing gin clear water ?

Clear water, standing timber and rocks. ;)

Have anyone tried out seaguar abrazx?

Two that I've liked are Vanish and XPS (Bass Pro Store Brand) fluoro. A tip on these two is use the next lb-test lower than what you want, in other words, if you like 10-pound test for a leader in a situation, use 8-pound of either of these as they are "over tested" or stronger than stated.

If money's no object, my favorite leader is Orvis "Mirage" leader material. Very strong for it's diameter, very, very, abrasion resistant.

I second the BPS XPS Fluoro for leader material.  I used 20lb on my 30lb+ braid.  works great
