I posted a few weeks ago about a Browning Citori that was rough for a split second during a hard cast. I have narrowed down the problem to the brakes. When the reel is in free spool I have no problems but as soon as I put the brakes on 1 the problems start. Here is a picture of the braking system. Any ideas on how to fix this.

did you try oiling the brake blocks?

Yeah I tried that it actually seemed to make it worse.

If it's new this year, send it back to BPS.  Double check their policy, but basically, send it back with their packing form for an exchange and also a note asking for an exchange and reimbursement for return shipping.  They returned a new Midas to me in < 2 weeks along with a check for my shipping.  Limited use, but so far I really like the Browning.  Enough to sell a couple other popular reels.

this is an older reel. BEen out of warranty for probably 2 or 3 years. I just want to know if I can fix this problem without buying parts or if not do I need the brake shoes or the race that brakes rub on.

Not in sharp focus, but it looks similar to the Quantum braking system. Use to have the same problem with them.

We found when placing the brake side plate that we made sure all of the brakes were pushed in toward the spool center, with the dial on 0 then add the plate.

Once the plate is mounted then turn the dial to max/10 and back to Zero. Then back to whatever setting we wanted to start with. Sometimes it would work the first time, sometimes it took a couple of times to get it setup. But each time we added the side plate we had to make sure that all of the brakes were depressed before adding the side plate...

Just a thought.........

So from what I am taking from your response is that new parts wouldn't fix the problem because the brakes are prone to this?

Yup!  IMPO the brakes aren't worn out it is just a design quirk...
