I was considering picking up one of these rods for shakey heads and weightless plastics and was wondering if it could also be used effectively as a drop shot rod as well. I have never attempted drop shotting before and have no experience with this rod (only the BCR853 GLX). What are your thoughts?

Way to stiff for both, imo. If it was a medium power maybe, but a medium heavy is too strong imo. I like either a medium light or a medium and extra fast rod. I would use it more for spinnerbaits and pitching in light cover.

the BCR852 is a MXF tip rod that would suit your needs for dropshoting, and also weightless senks and other lighter baits, I've been in search of the Mossyback model for weeks now with no luck, Im thinking I might have to grab a new one, the GLX is waaaaay out of my price range, Good Luck

Dam, I looked up the 853, my B. Forget everything I just said.

I have this rod and it's an outstanding shakey head/weightless worm rod.  I'm not a big fan of dropshotting, but it could be done with this rod with a moderate sized DS setup.  I wouldn't be tossing a 1/16 oz weight with a 3" finesse worm on it, but a 1/4 oz weight and a 5" worm would work fine - WITH the right reel and line of course!

Thanks for the input guys. The plan would be to pair the rod with a Core50/Aldebaran and 12lb Seaguar Abrazx. I'm glad to hear that this rod will work well for my intended purposes and can serve as a drop shot rod as well on the rare occasion that I choose to do so.
