What's the going rate for a used Stella FA 2500

Featured Replies

One's come up for sale on one of my local boards - just wanted to get a sense what the pricing should be.

Condition is supposed to be 8/10 cosmetic, 8/10 mechanical.

I have no idea of the value, that said I do not buy used......PERIOD !  For what that reel may cost, I would buy a new stradic fi, at least I now have a warranty for a year and a great reel.

the FA is an older series so that will lower the value plus since its used and not in mint condition i wouldnt pay more than 1/2 the value of a new one.

a new FD 2500 is $650 so that FA 2500 in 8/10 condition shouldnt be more than $325.

i would check ebay for a new one, theres a new FD 2500 on ebay now for $520.

fyi, a stradic is not in the same class with a stella, its the difference between a chevy and a benz.

Thanks Steezy.

I asked because I couldn't find any Stella FAs for sale on fleabay or any other current site.

You've confirmed my thoughts on its potential value.

An 8/10, 8/10 Stella FA circa 2002-2006 would surprise me if it brought more than $200.  This reel could be 8 years old and the seller admits that there are both mechanical and cosmetic issues.  If the reel looks and feels nice to you, and you are happy with the price, that is all that really matters.  Good luck!

Steezy I'LL take a new Chevy over a well used Mercedes any day; the cost of ownership is too high. I'm with SirSnook on this. Spending that kind of money on a used reel is a bet I would not take. Just my $.02

First issue is how has the reel been maintained, no way to know?  Secondly approaching this transaction from a business standpoint, 5-8 year old reel with old technology would put cost at no more than 25% of original price, somewhere around 100-$125, imo.

What I never can understand is that if a stella is that good, why not a lifetime warranty for $600+?

I'd still go with a new fi or even c-14, latest technology and a warranty.  In the case of a professional fisherman, probably the stella is a better bet but he/she would be buying or obtaining new.

I currently have a 1000FA, 2500FB and 2500FD.

That said, I HIGHLY recommend a new Stradic

2500 CI4. This would be a much better choice verses

a used FA.
