Line color?

Featured Replies

:-/ When using a hybrid-type line like Yo-Zuri or P-Line, what is the significance of the color?  I thought the flourocarbon in these lines would keep it from refracting light and therefore vitually disappear.  Is the choice of color for the angler to see the line out of the water?  Is color selected based on clear vs. stained water?

Although I don't think it makes that much difference,

these are my recommendations for Yo-Zuri Hybrid:

Green: gin clear water, it blends perfectly

Smoke or Purple Smoke: stained water

White is just "okay" in any water. I use it on

silver reels just because it looks cool!

Don't mean to hijack the thread here. But i have a question about the yozuri smoke/purple smoke line. Where can i find that? Do you know if it is fluorescent? i would like something that i can see out of the water easily and that also glows under a black light (hybrid or 100% FC).

i use the clear stuff now. i can see it clearly above water and i think it disappears well under the water.

So to answer your question, the different line colors are for the angler to see the line above the water. I agree with roadwarrior, line color doesn't matter to the fish as much as we might think.

No, it's not florescent. You can buy Hybrid at most big retailers:

Cabela's, BPS and TW to name a few.

What about braids? I use green all the time but usually have a leader on. If I tie straight to my lure though, I like the green because I'm usually fishing near grass and it tends to... I don't know... blend in better?

RW: Thanks for the info. i was asking specifically about the smoke/purple smoke color though. i can't find that at the major retailers. all they have is green and clear. i did find it on some other website though, can't remember which one. but since it is not fluorescent, i am not interested.

nate: i use braid a lot also, mainly green. it is really hard for me to see above the water but i still like it. i have just recently started trying it out with a leader like you and others have suggested. the main reason i want to go to a leader however is that i feel like the FC or hybrid leader gives me a little stretch where needed. i feel like braid gets hung up a lot easier because of the no stretch. like, for instance, dragging around rocks. the braid instantly wedges my bait in the rocks or around wood. with FC or hybrid, i feel i can work it up and over these obstructions better. i am still testing this out. not sure how i will like the leader to main line knot. i use straight braid around grass.

that is the knot i have been using. i read it on another post here. i think it will work. took me awhile to get it down. thanks for the info.

i did find some P-line that is fluorescent, just in case anyone else is interested. P-Line CX comes in clear and green fluorescent. bps has it.

i read on another site that yozuri smoke purple is marketed as hi-vis. i don't know if that means it fluoresces or not. i think i would prefer the yozuri over the p-line since i have never tried p-line. i am using stren 100% FC now in clear blue fluorescent. i prefer the manageability of yozuri.

I have been using all black braid except on my micro stuff... I haven't fished much this year so I haven't really noticed an issue?
