1/4 oz - 3/4 oz jig/worm rod

Featured Replies

i need opinions as to what rod will fit nicely in between a dobyns 702c and a Loomis mbr 844 glx. I'm thinking either the dobyns 703, or one of the Loomis bcr series(853,854) or even their senko rod (893). if someone who has fished any of these could clue me in on which might fit sort of in the middle of my current two, listed above, i would appreciate it. I'm still fishing a couple of rods i bought quite some time ago in that power , and would like to upgrade. the Dobyns website lists their 703 as xf, and then says it has fast action, so can somebody tell me which they feel those rods have. i would like something with the extra fast tip for this rod. that's one of the reasons I'm asking about the senko rod, it says xf for the action.  thanks for the help.

"In Between" = MBR842C/ Core 50MG7

This has become my favorite rig!

8-)

My jig rod is a Loomis BCR803, I think that would be a nice fit for you. Mine is paired with a Daiwa Steez reel.

The Generation 2 Dobyns 703C is a fast action rod rated for 1/4 - 3/4 oz.

I have this rod, and in my opinion, would not be a good fit for your desired applications.  It's simply not stout enough.  If you're looking for a Dobyns rod to fill this slot, look at the 704C.  I use the 703 for weightless senkos and T-rigs up to 1/4 oz and it does really well there.  But I would not go much heavier...

I agree with the previous post. I use the DX744 for this application and feel that a 4 power rod is much more appropriate. You might take a look at the 744 unless you are dead set on a 7' rod. I feel that the extra length really helps move line on hook sets and can be especially helpful in deeper water when more line is out.

thanks for the feedback. my boat locker is a 7' max. i read in the Bass Anglers Mag, an interview with Gary Dobyns where he says he slowed the action of the dx744 slightly to make it more versatile. i'm wondering if it's that different than the 704. i think i will choose between the 704 and the 744.
