Daiwa Pixy

Just picked up an amber orange pixy for $146 and was wondering how you think I did.  It does have a small amount of boat rash but it's very light.

I am wondering why you are up so late?

I am curious about this reel.  I can't wait to try it.  Comparing the other prices on ebay, I think you did pretty good.

For $146, you did extremely well, they aren 't exactly cheap ( nor they ever were ) even used. Now let 's talk a little about the reel, it 's not what you are used to, the reel is for light line ( 6-8 lbs test ) and the brake system is for light line, crosseye hooksets are not going to happen, tightening the drag isn 't going to help either, the drag will still slip and to make it worse, it malfunctions when tightened too much ( studdering ), as it is the reel is great for finssse fishing, casts the light offerings beautifully and efortlessly, you want it to perform another task then you 'll have to upgrade the drag and that is better done by somebody who has done it because it 's not just switching drag pads ( it requires adding parts and making adjustments ).

I was actually thinking about using it for casting crappie jigs for bass and panfish.  There's somedays that I feel like fishing the smallest baits possible for anything that will bite and I figured a pixy would be the way to do it with a baitcaster.

thats a really good deal! if you use the Pixy for what it was intended for (Light line light lure's) you will fall in love with it! they are amazing little machines. Pixys can be made to do other things with the right mods.. I myself have a Pixy on a flipping stick and it does its job great but its been mod'ed and the drag is now a monster!

I love my Pixilla's.. but the Pixy stock is a super fine reel that will do things a lot of other reels cant.

If thats what you wanted a reel to do then you bought the reel that will do it. On the right rod you will be able to cast 1/16th oz jigs with ease. If I was you I would spool on some 6-10# nice supple FC or Copoly and go have fun with it! The stock drag is very light but enough that you can handle fish fairly well.. A 5+# fish will take a little longer to land then normal but it makes it more fun. If it was mine I would do a Carbontex drag upgrade and thats really all you have to do.. I own 6 Pixillas and 2 Stock Pixys (The stock ones have CarbonTex drags and TG Rocket ABEC7 bearings on the spool but thats it.) if you dont plan on going less then 1/16th oz lures on the reel then I wouldnt worry about upgrading bearings. I have 6# P-line CX on one of the stock ones (Its a Airy red) and that line was made for the Pixy lol it is awesome on that reel its super thin and super limp in 6 and 8# and would be the line id'e recommend for you to spool it with! like Raul said on the Stock drag its light and when you try to get more out of it then you are asking for bad shuttering so just deal with the light drag or go Carbontex its not hard to upgrade I did all mine myself and never had much trouble so if you want to do it PM me and you can call me and ill talk you through it if you are having trouble! you will like the reel a lot more with a Carbontex drag I promise you. what rod are you putting it on??!!??!??
