i have no opinion on those reels, but i would look at Falcon Lowrider rods or the Skeet Reese Worms/Spinnerbaits rod, and lastly the Shimano Compre CB rods.

if you get a wild hair, start looking for a Daiwa Sol. great reel.

BPS Pro Qualifier stuck on a BPS Crankin Stick.  I've caught a ridiculous amount of fish on this setup.  My only complaint would be the size of the guides on the rod.  They're a little big, but that's not enough to stop me from buying another one.

I think you need to get the Pro Qualifier reel. It is the best bang for the money.

Cranking sticks ain't bad cranking rods for the money either.

Is there a better reel in between the $100-150 range for crankbaits?

You could score a Curado E5 off of ebay for under $150.  Pretty awesome reel for cranks.

150 + ebay actually gives you lots of options.

You really don't need a special reel for cranking.  Just something that casts well and has a somewhat lower gear ratio.

What about speed for topwater or other applications?

My two current reels are 6.2:1 and 6.4:1.

  • Super User

I use a 6.4:1 and a 7.1:1 for topwaters.

Heres my general rule:

7.X's are for flipping and pitching

6.X's are your general purpose do everything gear ratio.

5.X's are for cranking

Obviously other people will have different preferences.

Wait before you purchase the Pro Qualifier, if you do purchase it. They regularly go on-sale for the same price as the Extreme ($79.99). One of these paired with a 7' M Crankin' Stick would be nice.

$150? Curado E5! You can find them on eBay for $145. It would be the absolute best reel choice for under $150.

Grab a Shimano Citica off Ebay , or a Revo S. I'd pick both of those over the reels listed.
