i am wondering what would be a good action and power for a rod i would use for buzzbaits, hollowbody frogs, soft plastic frogs, poppers, and some others.

MH or H Power.

If using braid fast tip. If using mono XF tip

ok, would you recommend mono say like 20# or so since it floats.

I use Sufix Seige 17# mono. Its a good line all around for topwater.

does that line handle a hollow body frog hit well?

To be honest braid is the best line when using any type of frog to get that solid hookset. You can almost use a jig rod with braid for frogs.

If you can though, use one rod for froggin with braid, and one for other topwater with mono.

That's a pretty wide range of applications for one rod...what I use

For poppers etc...medium power

For buzzbaits...medium heavy

frogs...heavy

A rod that would handle  hollowbody frogs, soft plastic frogs will be to stiff to keep fish pinned with treble hooks on popper and such.. if they are big poppers with big hooks it would be a little better but small hooks would get tore out a lot on a rod that would excel at what you want.. the rod would handle buzz baits fairly.

If you go with mono it would handle treble hooks better but would hurt in the other areas... I would go with a 6.10 to 7 foot rod in MH/XF if you still wanna try and use it for all your top water treble baits included... if you are mainly gonna use it as a frog rod in heavy cover go with a 7 to 7.6 (I really like my frog rods 7'4) H/F.. If you are disciplined at waiting to feel the fish go XF you will have more power... a slightly slower action will help the fish get it just ever so slightly deeper before hook set...

I doubt you will find a rod that you will be happy with fishing all the lures you said.. you will suffer in one area with the rod it will excel at one and be limited at the other..

ok so i guess maybe use my avid medium heavy for frogs and ill buy another frog for the rest, i cannot afford to buy more then one extra rod atm.

Your Avid I would use for Buzzbaits and frogs. Buy a nice soft rod for your treble hook lures ie. pop-r's Zara spooks etc.

Yup he hit the nail on the head! also if funds are a problem buying a top water plug rod you can skimp because you dont need it to be sensitive you just need it to have a nice soft tip to keep the fish buttoned up.. Bottom contact lure rods are the ones that you have to invest big bucks in because thats were sensitivity is at a premium and sensitivity costs...

The Avid AVC66MF will cover all the applications you listed

plus jerkbaits and medium weight crankbaits. St. Croix Medium

Power is comparable to MH in some other brands.

Although the action is rated fast, the tip is soft. I would not

recommend this rod for soft plastics and jigs, but for your

stated needs, this rod will be a workhorse!

For me the AVC66MF is my dedicated jerkbait rod. I have it

matched with a JDM Scorpion and #12 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. The

length is perfect for working Pointers, X-Raps, Spooks and

Sammy's.

8-)

Make it simple and inexpensive for a topwater rod...Composite glass rod....Less missed fish(forgiving tip) ,fewer broken rods, strong, and dirt cheap.......Great fun too!......Leave the high end rods for other presentations!..... ::(
