Out of these two rods, which would you take for fishing Rage Tail Craws and 7" Thumpers with 1/4 oz. tungsten weights? This will be my first $200+ rod. Reel will be spooled with 50/12 PowerPro (of course).

As for the reel, a Curado 200e7 if I get the Loomis, or a Citica 200e for the Dobyns.

I've also considered Falcon Cara T7s. Please feel free to suggest other rods in the $200-$250 range! Thanks guys.

Well Fat G you picked two fine rods and they would both do fine for what you intend to use them for.  But I would go with the Dobyns over the Mossyback.  Dobyns rods just "feel" better to me than Mossybacks.  Plus the warranty is a lot better then loomis now.

If you can get your hands on both do it so you can draw your own conclusions.

Otherwise Dobyns.

Well the E7 is going to be the better reel for this application IMO due to the faster retrieve, not to mention I much prefer the larger knobs of the Curado to those of the Citica. As for the rod, personal styling preferences would play a role for me (I hate split grips and prefer 7'3"+ rods for bottom cantact baits). However, I recommend the Dobyns over the Loomis for asthetics as well as performance in this case. I currently own 5 Dobyns rods (4 Champs and 1 Extreme) and I plan to pick up 2 more in the next few weeks. I am down to just one Loomis GLX at this point. I much prefer the feel of Dobyns rods over Loomis and really wouldn't consider buying a rod from any other company at this point.

Gahhh. I like the "classic" look of the Loomis. Plus I'm set on a Curado, which would look b-e-a-utiful on the Mossyback, especially with green braid.

It would look great on a DX704c, and there's no way you would ever say, "Man, I wish I got the Champion instead of the Extreme."

Well, here's what I figured.

Curado- $180 + Mossyback- $245 = $425. That's if I payed full price.

Curado-$130 + Dobyns DX 704C- $300 = $430. That's if I get the Curado lightly used. I might even be able to find an Extreme for cheaper.

So, I'll probably get the Extreme. I hope.  ;D

I'd go with the Dobyns and Curado, if you can't afford it, then maybe grab a Champion 704 or 734 instead and get the Curado. That would work too. But if you really want the top of the line, get that rod and get a Citica. I just prefer high speed reels.

I thought about that too. I have many options right now lol. Curado/Extreme, Citica/Extreme, or I could get a Champion and a Citica and get the Citica tricked out.

Thank you sir! I think it would be sweet if I got a Champion 704c, then got a Citica painted to match it by Calfish over at TT. If I got some of the parts anodized blue, that would be sexy. Plus, I could get bearing/drag/handle upgrades.

Are the Champion rods black down the blank except for the silver part where the logo is? If they are is it the graphite-look or is it glossy?

I'd recommend the Dobyns with a $145 Curado from Ebay.  You might also be able to find a 2009 Revo STX that's still NIB for about $130.

The Dobyns Champion series rods are a good deal better than the GL Mossyback, and I own, use, and like both of these rods.
