a kislter magnesium heavy mag worm with revo sx

a powell wacky rig with a shimano 2500 symetre

ok ill stop long winded sorry

Don't know how the 2 reels you listed are. But I use a revo stx for heavy cover flippin and pitching, and frogs. And I love it. I noticed you have 2 revo's if you like them I would suggest considering that as well

I'm kind of in the same situation as you. I am currently looking at a Daiwa Zillion Flipping Rod. I think I am going to pair it with an Abu Garcia STX high speed reel. I will probably have 30# braid on this.

I am mainly going to be using this as my flipping stick/frog rod. When flipping, I want something that cranks extremely fast so that I can ***QUICKLY*** get them out of cover. Just today, I caught a bass off the end of a fallen tree. By the time I had set the hook and kept moderate pressure on my 12# line so as not to snap it off on the cover, the fish had dove, and gotten me wrapped around a TON of brush.

Of course I lost the fish.

I decided I wanted something with warp drive speed after that  ;D

With frogs its also better when you pull them up out of the pads/moss/weeds and reel them in skimming the surface of the water.

I have a Castaic I use for flipping.  It's fantastic.  It is a brute of a reel.  The Instagage feature is extremely handy.  For the price, I'm not sure there is a better flipping reel.   It also pitches exceptionally well.  It will pitch very light baits.

I like Shimano's Instagage feature.  It allows you to re-engage the spool simply by pushing up on the clutch bar.  You can do that with most, if not all, Diawa baitcasters, too.  Not sure if you can do that with Quantums.

The Quantum Accurist PT (newer models) have a flippin' switch.  I LOVE this reel for flipping and pitching as it allows me to simply remove my thumb from the thumb bar in order to engage the spool.  So the moment the lure falls to the right depth, I can instantly engage the spool without having to crank the handle.  Very useful feature.

The reel I purchased has a 7:1 burner retreive which is awesome for jig or frog fishing.  It casts lighter lures really well, and has a LOT of power to horse fish out of cover.

I have it spooled with about 1/2 the spool of old mono, and 1/2 the spool with 70# Daiwa Samurai Braid.  This stuff is excellent, and has a very thin diameter.  Its so strong that I have brought up a tree branch from the bottom of the lake that must have weighed 50+ lbs...

Best part -- it's only $100!

Shimano Curado 201E.

If you're a righty, try a LH reel, so that you don't have to switch hands just as the lure is hitting the water and falling, as this will cause you to miss some strikes or be caught in a poor hook-setting position. You'll also be able to make more and quicker flips/pitches.

Just get the Core with the flipping switch

If you are just flipping, I don't think it matters, although a reel with a flipping switch is nice.  If you will be pitching, I don't think you can beat  a Calcutta 200 TEGT.  This reel is very tight, exceptionally sturdy and with the 11 ball bearings your pitching distance is really extended.  I routinely pitch at targets 40 to 60 feet away, with no extra ordinary wrist effort.

Sounds like you need a super smooth reel that permits quick spool starts and a strong smooth drag.  The Revo STX has both and with your two other Revos, you have familiarity which is also nice.

I don't have one (yet ;) ) but that Daiwa Viento is used by some really good flippin guys (i.e. Jay Yelas). The "twitchin bar" allows you to take up line with one hand. The Quantum Accurist PT (i.e. Gary Klein) is a good one as well.

It is a big advantage to be able to flip with either hand, and both these reels have center-mounted actuators which instantly engage the spool.
