Decided to ONLY use my BC for the day

Featured Replies

I woke up this morning and decided i was going to just use my baitcaster. Took the spinning rod out of my backpack that i use to haul gear and threw the reel in there. My setup is:

-1 Piece Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6'6" Medium

-2001/02 Quantum Accurist PT Left hand

-Berkley Fireline Fused Original #20 with #12 berkley big game backing

So i set off through the woods. Let me tell you something. Whoever says tuning a reel whether it's a shimano, quantum or diawa won't make a difference, YOU'RE WRONG. The hot sauce .RM. gave me was the ticket to my success mainly. My reel is so smooth now. And after casting out a ton of times the braid settled down and now instead of feeling like sandpaper, it feels somewhat like mono. Or maybe i'm just getting used to it... either way on to my point. If you're kind of iffy with a baitcaster, do what i did it will improve your casting abilities a ton if you're going to want to have fun. I casted all right, but would switch over to my spinning reel for lighter tackle. Today i was throwing weightless worms from shore 25 or so yards out, that's pretty far for me. I did a little practicing in the yard yesterday and could cast a #7 rapala floater the same distance with my quantum as i could with my spinning gear, on the same diameter line. I love the feel of my baitcaster with the lighter lures. I think i've decided to stick the spinning stuff away for now, until i need it for trout or long hikes. This was also my first time in about 7 or so years that i used braid, and i love the stuff! Hooked on it.

Nice to see you got what you needed and it is working for you. By the way I replied to your post yesterday on my thread don't know if you looked at it or not.

Happy fishing

I did look at it. Glad everything worked out for you also. That pack of penn stuff was pretty cheap! Wish the hot sauce was

works pretty well too, I'd rate it up there with mobile 1 and castrol, lol, but really it is some nice synthetic stuff especially at around $4.

IMO the secret to the success of getting that reel smooth and free was the cleaning you did first. Most would have just added the new oil and grease over the old oil and grease.

Tight Lines!!

good post!

the accurist pt is a casting beast!

Nice post and I have an Accurist PT as well and its a great reel. I had to do the same thing one day when I went out to really stick to using the baitcaster and leave the spinning gear at home. Great way to teach yourself to stick with it and always best to have a line pick just in case.

The hot sauce is reel oil right?  Who makes that stuff?  I've heard it mentioned a few times on some fishing shows and B.R.

Hot Sauce is a Quantum product.  Make sure that using it in your reels (if they are not Quantum) will not affect the warranty before you use it.
