Just had a new 704C Heavy delivered yesterday.  Haven't had a chance to fish with it yet, but the rod has "jigs, texasrig, swimbait, carolinarig, and spinnerbait" written on the blank.  It's a nice rod, but seems rather light for a HEAVY action.  Website says it's got the power to drag bass out of heavy cover.  We will see..... :-/

I have five powells and they are fantastic!  They are very sensitive and are very strong.

I just got the "squarebill crankbait" rod, which is a 6'8" H/XF rod. I haven't had a chance to fish it yet, but I am impressed with it's light weight. I'll be using it for far more applications though.

Seems like a great rod for only $140   8-)

heavy action rods don't mean heavy in weight, it's the action, or how strong the rod is. powell makes a solid rod. go pull some bass out of some muck

I have found that Powell rods power ratings are somewhat on the lighter side, but definitely do not lack power.  They really are great rods and the 704C is probably one of the most versatile in it's lineup.  Enjoy your new rod.

the 704c is a good rod, it's between a MH and H but has all the power you need for everyday fishing.  I don't think I'd choose it for heavy vegitation but it has plenty of power for normal use.  I like to use mine, or similar rods, for texas rigs, jigs in sparce cover or open water, and carolina rigs.

Powell Max spinning 7'3" M/XF. I use it for all sorts of soft plastics and some jigs in upto moderate/heavy soft cover. Never had a problem with pulling out decent bass, and I've absolutely manhandled 3 pounders on it. It certainly doesn't feel underpowered. Superlight, super-sensitive and very very well balanced rod. I feel it's worth way more than the $169.99 I paid for it.

That's just what I plan on using it for.  Since I fish only Ky Lake, the heavy vegetation doesn't enter into it a whole lot.
