thanks for the help - one more question

Featured Replies

Tanks for the help on the spinning reel - I have one more question and it's probably a stupid one but here goes.  I think I have settled on the Abu Garcia Soron but in searching there is a STX20, STX40, STX60.  Can someone tell me what the difference is?  They are all priced within $15-20 of each other, I just want to make sure I purchase the right one.  Thanks guys - I truly appreciate your help!!

The difference is the size of the reel (spool). For most bass fishing applications, the 20 size should serve you well.

Get the size 20.

Maybe I'm bias cuz I was fishing ultralight equipment when I quit 23 years ago, but the bigger spinning reels are more than I like. Which is why I went to baitcasters when I got back into fishing this year. Plus I wanted BASS gear, not just ultralight gear. So I agree with everyone else. Go the 20 size. Also I think you made an excellent choice based on previous research. I need to pick up a couple new spinning reels to replace some of my very old gear. The Soron will be one of them.

Stx 20 ,14# max drag perfect for most freshwater

Stx 40, 22# max drag, great for inshore saltwater

Stx 60  30# max drag, used offshore for kingfish

As mentioned more line capacity as you work up in size.

I own all 3 sizes, no longer interested in any other brand.

Give ya a tip, if you buy a 20, order from Pure Fishing for $10 a size 40 handle to replace the 20, you will thank me.

I agree that the 20 size would be perfect
