Anybody have any experience with this reel?

It comes with a combo Im thinking about buying to use for pitchin jigs?

Any opinions or other alternatives would be sweet.

I have a Spirex 2500FG that is on an Allstar American Classic 6'6" medium/fast rod (feels more like a medium fast or medium).  It's sort of a grab and go combo I use for panfish and pickerel and for throwing small crank baits and inline spinners. 

The reel is inexpensive but is very smooth.  I actually like the handle.  I think that adds to the feeling of smoothness and balance.  The drag is perfectly adequate for bass fishing.  The trigger is a non issue for me since I don't use it.  Otherwise, there isn't much to say about it except that it's a very good reel in its price range.  I went with the front drag model because I don't care for rear drag spinning reels. 

I had one a few years ago. I didn't care for the handle, but that's just a matter of personal preference. What really turned me off was that it didn't have instant anti reverse. I ended up giving it to my brother.

If you have the Sedona as an option, go with it.  I have one from the first year they were produced (1994) and that thing is still in use. 

Im actually looking for a combo that I will use for flippin and pitchin.

And I noticed Shimanos are on ALOT of combos so I figured Id do a little studying up on them.

I have several Spirex reels, front drag & rear drag and I really like them.  I like the Quickfire trigger, especially in cold weather.  The Spirex has an anti-reverse, just not an instant anti-reverse.  It's never been an issue for me.  I think there might be better choices for pitching jigs, like maybe a bait caster.

I'm kind of partial to a Calcutta 200 TEGT for pitching jigs, but that might just be me.   I don't know, maybe if you're pitching jigs on relatively light line, a spinning reel could be the way to go.  Now, if you're skipping soft plastics or smaller jigs back into cover or underneath stuff, a spinning reel is definitely the way to go.  If you're doing alot of skipping, that quick fire trigger on the Spirex comes in handy.

Dude, the reel does have antireverse, but it 's not infinite antireverse.

Really ? not reall no antireverse, the truth is that the reel does have antireverse, but as I mentioned, it 's not infinte and it can 't be infinite in a reel with trigger bail, that kind of reels do not have infinite antireverse because the bail aligns automatically in order for the bail trigger mechanism to return to a parallel position in relation to the rod for your next cast.

Guys, instant anti-reverse achieved with a one way roller bearing.  No AR bearing, no Instant Anti Reverse.  They still stop with the line roller at 12 0'clock.  The reason is that its a Quickfire reel.  No sense having the Quickfire feature, if you can't get to it.

There are better reels out there for pitching jigs.

Agree, not the best for slow moving baits.  However, very good for small crankbaits, spinner baits and inline spinners. 

I had one that got the crap beat out of it for a good 12 yrs or so and I could still use it now but it's getting pretty rough.  Would buy another just for the "tough" factor.  Really did like the trigger too.
