Reel Repair?

Featured Replies

Where do you learn how to fix and lube reels the proper way.  I've fixed, lubed and cleaned mine and they work great, but I'm not sure it's right way.  Is it a matter of trial and error, are there good books or dvd tutorials??

If they work great, how can it be the wrong way?

True, but there are definitely "best practices" for specific applications.

In a general sense, bearings get oil, gears get grease.  Worm gears is a debate, I like oil.  Even bearings can be a debate, as I pack non free spool bearings with grease.

I clean my own but every now and then a good reel tech is worth the money.

Look up reel mech's site and send him just one and you will see that he is way better than you are.

I tried to provide the link but he must be out of favor.  However, he is good.

I highly recommend these if you're going to tear into your reels: http://www.amazon.com/Wiha-26199-Slotted-Phillips-Screwdriver/dp/B000NZ5QG0/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1292448443&sr=1-2

Cheap screwdrivers will lead to misery. This will be the last set you'll buy.
