Question about a good worm fishing pole.

Featured Replies

I am curious about what I should get med or med heavy for worm fishing and what brand and how tall should it be?

7' - 7'6", med/heavy or heavy power, fast or extra fast action.

7' med/heavy, fast would be a good place to start.  I would stay away from medium power rods personally.

x2 with the above poster.  I wouldn't go less than 7' and the MH action.  You'll be able to use it for both basic worming plus flipping/pitching.

I use a 7' SHIMANO Crucial M/XF.

Ill disagree. Well sort of. :P It depends on what your doing, how heavy weight, cover and so forth. I use both M and MH depending on what Im doing. M is typically a bit lighter line and weight. I see it as a jig rod as well. I dont wanna throw a 1/4 oz jig at 40ft deep on a MH rod, nor do I wanna throw a 3/4oz jig on a M. This is why we need a never ending supply of new rods(thats what I tell my wife). ;D

A lot of it depends on the cover or structure that you're fishing around. A M powered rod is plenty if you're around sparse cover. A MH will probably serve you better as an all around rod. As far as length goes, use something you're comfortable with.

My "bottom contact" rods

Shimano Crucial 7'6" MH / Shimano Citica - 12lb Fluoro or 30lb braid w/ 12-14lb Fluoro or Co-poly leader

Shimano Crucial 6'10" MH / Shimano Citica - 40lb braid w/ 14lb Fluoro or Co-poly leader

Shimano Crucial 7'2" M Spinning / Shimano Sahara - 20 lb braid w/ 8-12lb Fluoro leader
