I'm going to spend my last bit of christmas money on some new line, and have decided on the new Sufix 832 braid.

My question to you is, if im going to use this line for t-rigging and light jigging about 1/4 - 3/8 ounce, in medium cover, what would you suggest?

Im thinking 30# should do fine, but could bump it up to 40 if you guys think so. I'd like to keep line diameter low also.

I personally use 30 for that.  I've never really had a problem with braid digging on 30.  Other people have.  The difference in line size between 30 and 40 isn't all that major.  Take your pick with either one and you'll be fine.

i would use nothing under 50 on a baitcaster.use the lighter braids on a spinning rod.this makes sure your braid will not digg in on you.nothing wrong with fishing worms on a spinning rod.30 and under can be fished on a spinning rod with no problem.

X-3. But I'm thinking about trying some 40lb on a baitcaster. Just to see how it goes.

It's more about the diameter of the line than the pound-test. Most casting reels like about 10-pound test diameter line (or bigger). I use 10/40 Stren superbraid (got a great deal on a huge bulk spool) on several casting reels with no problemo whatsoever.

Just before ice over I put 15lb (4lb diam) on one of my baitcasters.  I have only caught a couple of fish on it and it seems fine so far.  What problems could I run into? What about the line recommendations on the rod?  I chose 15lb because my rod is only rated for up to 17lb.

I don't like anything under 50 on a baitcaster.  30 gets mixed reviews, so maybe it's best that people try it themselves.  It digs in just a little, limiting casting distance by a few feet, and I've had it break due to abrasions a lot more often than with the 50.

The main problem with very small diameter line is it can get between the spool and sideplate. Also like has been stated a number of times, it tends to dig in to the spool of line under it. Every reel is a little different, and you may have no problems.
