I have two 2009 model Rick Clunn reels, which are the same as the 2010 RCX - just blue instead of purple. They're a good quality reel, have one more bearing than the PQ (although I haven't checked out the schematic to see where that bearing is), hold a bit more line, and have a soft-touch kinda finish. However, the RCX is a bit heavier than the PQ at 9.45oz catalog weight vs. 8.8oz for the PQ. The PQ is lighter, holds a bit less line, but is available in a lot more ratios both RH and LH.

The main reason I got the RC reel was that they were on closeout for $71.xx. Had they not been marked down so far, I would have probably just got a couple more PQs... ::)

I have really enjoyed my 2009 6.4:1 RC blue reel (paired with 6'9M Carrot Stix) for crankin'. It has taken a beating over the past 2 years and has performed well. The guy I take my reels to for annual cleaning and repair had told me the inner workings look pretty close to Shimano's more than any other manufacturer. I owned a PQ for about a week last month based on the high reviews from BR members, but TW closed out the LH 2009 Revo STX for $99, so I returned the PQ. Good luck.

The RCX is a little too heavy for my tastes..

Yup - nowadays, 9.45 ounces is just a bit portly for a standard spool (not wide-spool) low-profile BC reel...

Not to mention it's bulky to hold compared to the PQ.  I ordered one once thinking it was built on the same frame as my Extreme's were since it looked virtually identical to them in the catalogs.  I found out it's not.  It's a good bit larger feeling in your hands than the Extreme.  The PQ is nearly the same (I can't tell any difference) as the Extremes I have and both are smaller than the RCX.

I'd get the PQ and not look back.  Truthfully I'd be getting them NOW instead of the Shimanos I started buying if I thought I could trust the gears not to start grinding after a couple of years.  My Extremes did that, 2 out of 5 so far now feel somewhat rough even after cleaning and relubing.  The other 3 haven't been used enough to get there yet.  I figured the PQ has the same gears in it since it's the same ratios and made by the same people.  I went with Shimanos in an attempt to get away from that.

Sorry for straying off topic.  You know how it goes, say one thing and it leads to another, and another....

I've had a couple Pro-Q's going on my third season, and have had no issues with them. I think their the best $120.00 and under reel out there.
