Daiwa Spinning Reel Question

Featured Replies

How are Daiwa spinning reels durability wise? I know their casting reels have a great rep (I have one and its great). But how are their mid-range spinning reels? Do they hold up as well as Shimano? Any general reviews about Daiwa spinning reels? I'd pretty much like any general info about them, particularly the Advantage.

I just picked up a Tierra to try.  I have usually been a Shimano guy,  but lately I've been broadening my horizons.  I've been reading that a lot of people prefer Daiwa spinning reels over Shim. so I had to see for myself.  I was also curious about how well Daiwa's anti-twist (or whatever its called) works compared to a shimano.

I know it doesn't really answer your question,  but just wanted to let you know that I did a lot of searching and found only positive things said about Daiwa spinners.

I am in the same position as you. Searching, not that I have any problems with Shimano spinning reels. I love them! But, I found mostly negative things about Daiwa spinning reels.

I have only a daiwa fuego and i love it!  Thats the extent of my knowledge about them :)

I use spinning tackle maybe about 10% of the time, but the 10% I use them I use a Daiwa Tierra 2500 and a Sol 2500.I have had several Shimano spinning reels and like the Daiwa's better even though I am a Shimano baitcasting guy.Oh and yeah they have never broken and are well made.

I have nice things about the new Diawa Exceler. Nice gear ratio of 6:2:1 and only weighs 9.7.  Nicer part is they are only listed at $109.00.

I have nothing but Daiwa spinning reels. Fuego, tierra and exceler.

I won't be getting rid of mine...Looking to pick up a sol by the end of this year if i can find a deal on it.

The sol is a best spinning reels I have ever fished.  It was a very sad day when I found out that they were no longer making them.

Fuego 2500 guy here. I actually just picked another one up tonight.

I haven't tried the newer silver ones, but you can't beat the old red ones for the prices you can find them at.

i have 3 tierra reels and all 3 dont feel as smooth as they used to. you can feel a little grind through about 30% of the handle turn. maybe they just need cleaning although they werent heavily used. maybe its bad luck but i havent had that issue with any of my 5 shimano spinning reels. anybody else have this issue with the tierras?
