Need New Braided Line?

Featured Replies

I haven't replaced my braided lines in a couple years. Anything new out there I should look at? My primary use of braided line is on spinning reels, so I'm looking for limp.

I switched from Power Pro to Spiderwire and couldnt be happier. However I have not tried it on spinning gear, but it is smoother.

I've had no trouble at all using Sufix Performance braid on my spinning setups. I'm down to 10/4 (10 lb test, 4 lb dia.) on my ultra lite rig with zero issues. For what it's worth, Sufix claims it's engineered for spinning reels.

I have been using Fireline Crystal for a few years now and should be a company spokesman. I have NEVER had a knot failure of a break off using the Fireline Crystal. I can not say that about ANY other line. It is the only line other than mono for topwater that will be on my reels.

I've got some Stren Superbraid on a couple of my spinning rigs that has been used for over 5 years. It is somewhat faded from the original Gold color but still performs great.

If it is not frayed or too short, there is no need to replace it.

As far as new and limp, you won't find a limper/softer/quieter braid that is better than Daiwa Samurai and none equal to it.

If want a real limp and smooth braid check out Cabela's Ripcord Si Plus. I have used Power Pro SUCKS, Stren Micro Fuse frays to quickly SUCKS, and the original Spiderwire didn't like as it was a flat line but it probably has changed by now. I'm going to try Berkley's Fireline Crystal this season my Co-Angler likes it. Other than the black braid I was given in the late 50's that's all I have used.

There have been alot of improvements to braid in the last few years.  I have to disagree with you on wanting the limpest line for spinning gear... I think a limp line contributes to tip wrap and loose reel loops, but each to his own.  Tightly woven eight strand braids are what I look for in fishing line today.
