Daiwa brake knob and screw problem

Featured Replies

I have a TD-Z 103H that I'm having a little trouble with. The screw on the palm side that is in the middle of the brake knob turns when I turn the brake knob. This causes the plate to loosen up when I loosen the brake and overtighten when I tighten the brake. Anybody have any idea about how to fix this?

when you tighten the screw down you can no longer adjust the mag. brake?

Pretty much. I can go left because it loosens the screw, but I can't go right because it is already tightened down and the dial won't move independently of the screw like it should.

I may have just noticed what the possible problem is. The brake dial washer part F63-7701 and key #6 on the 103h schematic is missing. Could that cause this problem?

Yeah, I just stuck a little cardboard in to fill the space and see if that would alleviate the problem and it did, indeed. I just recently acquired the reel and it was missing so the guy I got it from is sending me a new washer.

If I were you I would forget about the washer, since you bought it used I 'd send it to a pro for general check-up, cleaning/oiling/greasing and being a TDZ ---> drag upgrade ( carbontex drag pads ) while you are it.

I've already installed the carbontex drag and cleaned, oiled, and greased it. I just didn't notice that was missing until I actually pulled it out later and noticed the screw was moving with the dial. That's when I pulled the plate back off and disassembled the knob and Magforce system to see what might be causing the problem. I then put it all back together using the schematic and noticed that little washer was missing.
