Hey guys, I am looking to learn about the different types of reels there are. From what I can see there are two main types. spinning and Baitcasters, are there others?  now my question is why/when would you use one over the other?  From the fishing shows I watch I seem to see the Baitcaster used more often.

I do have one of each but really never know which one to pick up.  Are they made to throw specific tackle or for catching certain fish??

In a very general sense, spinning gear is better for lighter lines and baits and baitcasters for heavier lines and baits. Of course there are exceptions to every rule but you can come to your own conclusions as you learn and gain experience.
