St. Croix Legend Tournament 7'3" Telescopic Carolina Rig rod

Featured Replies

Just curious if anybody has any experience with this particular rod in the St. Croix line-up?

I'm a co-angler and looking for a very versatile rod that I can use for carolina rigs, football heads, big spinnerbaits, texas rigs, flipping and pitching, and maybe even a buzzfrog-type bait in a pinch.

Try the St. Croix LTC70HF frog rod.  It's in the same line up.

I have the 7'3" LT carolina rig rod and it works very well for rigging, flipping, pitching, and a slop rod for frogs. I don't think I'd use it for spinnerbaits or buzzfrogs but it's a really nice rod for heavier baits and heavy cover or long casts and hooksets when you're rigging.

Thanks, that info is very helpful.  I honestly doubt I would use it for spinnerbaits or buzzfrogs - just threw that in there because I'm looking for as much versatility as possible.

I have this rod too. It was the only st croix rod that I kept when I switched most of my rods over to Loomis. Really good for CRig, Frogs, and small swimbaits.

Any comments as to the balance of the rod.  Looking to put a Curado 200e7 on it.  Hoping its not tip heavy like the Powell 734 I tried last year.

Like all/most LTB rods it is tip heavy. Not a big deal if you are going to primarily use this rod for C-rig and small swimbaits.

I've got a Revo SX on it and don't really notice it being tip heavy. Mine is an older model without the split grip though so the extra cork might balance it out a little better I guess.

Yeah, wish they still made them that way.

I use mine strictly for Carolina Rigging.  I think it is an awesome rod for C-rigging.  I have it matched up with a Shimano Chronarch and use PLine Halo 12 pound test.  Excellent balance and I don't feel the tip is to heavy.

I prefer them with split grip personally but I there slightly tip heavy but nothing of any real concern.

Yeah, it just seems like when you get over 7 ft. with a split grip - the rods start feeling tip heavy.

As I said in my original post - I need this rod to be fairly versatile since I'm a co-angler and can only bring a limited number of set-ups.  Thus, it would be used for both tip up and tip down presentations.  Just wish I could find this rod at one of my local retailers, so I could get a much better idea of the feel, balance, etc.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I have the Avid MH73 telescopic with a curado d and have no balance issues. Great multi purpose rod.

They don't make an Avid version of this rod, correct?  Just in the Legend Tournament Bass series?

St. Croix's website shows a few 7 footers, a 7 1/2, and a 7' 10" but no 7' 3"s in the Avid.
