just wondering how the trade in works...can you bring more than one reel to trade in and do you get a decent trade in or do they just give like $20.00  or something....i have a couple older accurists i could trade in and a almost new daiwa advantage....

Sheesh, don't do that, especially not with the Advantage. They will take ANY reel - most times they don't even inspect it to make sure it works. I've seen people just buying $5 - $15 reels in BPS itself and trading them in.

I'd take the Advantage off your hands if I was a Daiwa guy. I'm sure someone on here will buy it - post it in the Flea Market.

The trade-in is incremental depending on the cost of the reel you buy. I think my buddy got like $30 - $40 off his Zillion a couple years back. Traded in like a 20 year old Abu Garcia spinning reel or something.

my bass club was given a couple boxes of the traded in reels. they take everything. a good amount were good and/or fixable but a bunch were junk. i got a quantum iron which need a cleaning and greasing. i did both and now it works fine

The trade value of your reel has nothing to do with the actual value of the reel you're trading in. It's all relative to the cost of the new reel you're buying. An old beat up Zebco 33 has the same trade-in value as a brand new Steez.

I'm going to buy a few new reels to give.

Agree.  Although I mentioned above that BPS doesn't usually check to see if the reels work - I always make sure the ones I trade in are in perfect working order.  I believe the reel trade-in is part of one of the kids fishing programs, so yes - I want to give them a reel that works.

The deal states that they are supposed to be working reels. The Classic gets so crazy at times I don't think they have time to check them all.

They are given to kids fishing groups, so please turn in working reels. My Junior Bassmasters group received some of the reels one year. Many were good working older reels and some non workers the kids chose to try and repair. I was especially proud when my group chose to pick a couple of reels and donate the rest to a local schools fishing club. So they go to very good use for kids who may not be able to afford a reel to fish with. It is a great program!

when i went last year BP had a barrel full of small zebco 202's or something like that for 5 bucks! People were picking them up like crazy for trade ins! Thats what i did on my revo sx!

That happened to me at the BPS store, also...I was buying a fairly decent reel and I was unaware that the trade in was going on (I didn't have a trade in reel). I ended up buying a new shimano spininng reel (IX----??) for like 10 bux, trading it in at the same time and saving like $15 on the new reel.

I saved $5 and some kid got a brand new shimano, still in the package...

I have two that I am going to trade in.

No, not those two. Small spinning reels that do not function properly.

Now, what to get in their place????

It's a fine program as long as you don't want a new Shimano reel.  Shimano doesn't participate in the reel trade-in program.

They do, he is in a junior club.

When does BPS take trade-ins? Is it a scheduled day/weekend or anytime?
