  1. Edwin Evers' seminars on spring fishing were interesting. He also had a lot of good things to say about MLF pro tour. The anglers picked the locations and dates so the lakes will be at their best. He also said they have the flexibility to set the minimum weight for a scoreable bass. So if they fish Falcon, they could set the limit to three pounds instead of one pound. Should be exciting. The Cups are still fished 'in the dark', meaning they don't know where they'll fish. Can't wait.
  2. No food. Just lots of good, gently used gear.
  3. 11 years USN, Gulf War vet, Shellback, 9 years Navy Civ, now retired.
  4. I plan on going Friday as well. I'll probably wear a grey VT hat (granddaughter's school) or an OSU hat.
  5. Talk to the folks at G2 Gemini. My club designed our own shirts and they weren't that expensive. We had options in different price points for long sleeved technical shirts to collared varieties. They might even help you out being a high school club and all.
  6. It's called The Tackle Box. A couple local fishermen took the shop over from an elderly couple. Still mom and pop-ish but with a lot of current stuff. Enjoy
  7. Jimmy Houston, KVD, and Hank Parker. KVD's video on spinnerbaits pretty good too.
  8. Not sure what part of AL you live but there's an awesome Tackle Shop in Oxford, AL. I used to stop in there whenever I could while on travel for work. Oh, congrats on the diploma.
  9. Get some quality reel oil and reel grease. Use the oil sparingly as a little goes a long way on bearings. Use the grease on gears, that includes cogs and the levelwind worm gear.
  10. I took the new rod for a spin. It works as advertised. Handles the light jerkbaits just fine. The short handle really makes the snap snap retrieve a breeze.
  11. I just bought one today and plan on trying it tomorrow. I'll let you know how well it works out.
  12. Google 'Red Phillips Knot' if you want an easy and strong, small knot to attach your leader to a braid main line.
  13. Hey Ron, I signed up as a boater shortly after you spoke at my club's meeting ( NHBA). Should I expect to see some kind of confirmation e-mail before the event? Tight Lines!
  14. Copolymer and mono both float. Both are appropriate for topwater fishing.
  15. It's a fine program as long as you don't want a new Shimano reel. Shimano doesn't participate in the reel trade-in program.
  16. Tungsten's other advantage is that it is denser and therefore smaller for the same given weight. The smaller size weight is less prone to opening the fish's mouth on a hook set.
  17. Welcome to the area. Check out VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries website for lakes in your area. Lake Fairfax is close to you. You'll find a lot of small sunfish, some small cats, and a lot of turtles. Burke Lake off rt 123 in Fairfax is another option for you. If you want to fish from a boat I recommend joining a local bass club. Check out New Horizon Bass Anglers. They fish the Potomac quite a bit as well as other VA lakes. The club is more about helping others learn to fish than the typical 'big money' tournament clubs. Check out www.nhbayouthfoundation.org for more info.
  18. NHBA? That's the one.
  19. After weigh-in, we each take turns detailing the type of lure and cover type where we caught our fish.
  20. Sam, Maybe a 12lb striper. ;D
  21. Certainly not your typical fishing show. I wasn't impressed.
  22. Since you don't have a boat, have you thought about fishing the public side near the warm water discharge at dike3?
