Copolymers for topwater?

Good or bad idea?  I was thinking about trying Yozuri this year for various applications.  Anybody use it, or other copolymer lines, for topwater?

Worth a try I guess depending on technique. I use braid for most topwater applications but found a mono leader helpful.

PLine CXX will do everything you ask it to do and then some.

x2, I bent a flippin' jig hook on a log trying to unsnag it. It was 12 lb. line. Very strong stuff. VERY tough though, hard to manage.

I wouldn't feel underpowered throwing 8# or 10# on a baitcaster for jigs and plastics.

Depends on cover.

Yo-Zuri #12 will be perfect.

Try the P-line, too, the cost of both brands is low.

I use to fish P-Line until I found Yo-Zuri five or

six years ago. I don't use CXX anymore, but lots

of our members love the line and you might, too!

Anywhoo...For me...

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6

Baitcasting gear: Hybrid #12

How easy is AbrazX to manage? I might eventually get a spool for my Curado to throw t-rigs with. Then again, I might just stick with Yo-Zuri 12#.

Do you still have a rig with AbrazX?

Not directed toward me, but I've used both InvizX and AbrazX and both are IMO the BEST fluorocarbon lines you can buy that won't burn a hole in your wallet. Both lines are extremely manageable.

When I chose fluoro for casting gear it's usually 12 or 15# AbrazX.

So the Yo-Zuri Hybrid, and some other copolymers, probably has a slower sink rate than straight fluorocarbon, which would make it ok for topwater use?  If so, I'll definitely try it out.  Can't beat the price, for sure.

That's true with straight copolymers, but P-line makes a couple that are fluorocarbon coated that don't work very well so make sure you get the right one!

I found both lines very manageable, matched

rated strength and Has no issues with abrasion.

When I think I need fluorocarbon, these are the

two I will fish.

Back to Yo-Zuri again...A fundamental advantage

of the line is it's actual breaking strength. Generally

I think this feature outweighs other factors, especially

in the smaller diameters. In gin clear water I can't

see #4 original Hybrid and #12 is still stealthy!

The Hybrid is not as strong as CXX, nor as abrasion resistant.

Most of my rods are spooled with copoly line.  Trust me, it works great for topwater as well as anything else you want to do with it. ;)

I use copoly for topwater without any kind of trouble.  I usually use either CXX or Floroclear, both of which are FC coated but they still float.

Copolymer and mono both float.  Both are appropriate for topwater fishing.

10# P-Line CXX seems perfect for topwater.

Anybody ever try Gamma copolymer?  They're a local company and it's easier to find here in Pittsburgh than Yo-Zuri.  P-Line is not hard to find at all, though.

The Hybrid is not as strong as CXX, nor as abrasion resistant.

But Hybrid is also quite a bit easier to manage than CXX at similar pound tests.

So, I got some 12# CXX and spooled up yesterday for some practice casting.  It had so much memory and coiling even after several long casts, and tying a palomar knot was tough because the line was so stiff.  I'm sure it's strong line and abrasion resistant, but doesn't seem right for me.  I'll give it another shot once the weather is a bit warmer, but it looks like I'm definitely going to try some other copolys.  Gamma is next on my list, followed by Floroclear and Hybrid.

I use the CXX on my swimbait rod, 20lb.  It does have memory but it is quickly tamed w/ KVD Line and Lure. Spray it on the night before and you'll be set.

I have been happy with the YZ Hybrid 8lb for poppers and such.  No issues for me on topwater.

Anyone have opinions on P-Line Voltage (I currently use Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Ultrasoft)?

Currently considering a switch to P-Line CX, CXX, or possibly the Voltage when I need to respool because there is a local fishing store (15 minutes walking distance) that doesn't stock Yo-Zuri (must travel 40 miles or order online for Hybrid and Ultrasoft).

I use 20# Yozuri Ultrasoft for my big top water baits, i.e. 8" Punkers, and 8" floating swimbaits. No issues as of yet. I wouldn't trust any fluro for heavier baits, even the abrasx, lost a couple of nice bass, due to poor abrasion resistance.. >;)

I will also use 55lb Samurai braid for the real heavy top water baits.
