Looking to pick up a swimbait rod for throwing swimbaits in the 4-6" range,what do you guys think about the crucial? its around 150 bucks so thats an attractive feature, and ive used a couple other crucials and i wasnt disapointed, what do you suggest? thanks

Good rod for the money. It will handle the baits effectively, and it has enough power to move big fish in a hurry.

I'd possibly break from their weight allowance, though, if you're going to be throwing more 5 and 6 inch baits, and go to the XH. I fish everything I throw on that rod and have had very good luck with it. Initially, I bought it for throwing Musky swimbaits and Cowgirls. It does that well, but it also throws smaller baits very accurately.

The heavy, though, will perform just fine if you're never going to step out of that range.

Either of the rods, though, will perform great for the money.

No need for a XH for 6" swimbaits, a H will do just fine. The Okuma guide select is a great deal for the $$$, I had a 7'11" FH that I thew 6 to 8" baits on. I sold it to get a Dobyns 806.. 8-)

As long as the rod's specs match your line test and bait weight you should not have any problems.

Now I'm heartbroken, I don't know if you knew you were my BR hero, you were. 

You are talking about throwing .75-2oz baits on one of the heaviest production swimbait rods out there.

A 5 oz huddleston barely loads that rod. The only things I ever used it for were OG Armageddons and Wake Baits, 12" Castaic HardHeads, and the 12" Osprey. All of which are between 7oz and 11ozs.

You may be talking about using their normal bass rods, where a H or XH would be fine for the baits he mentioned. But the Crucial XH Swimbait specific rod will not work well. I would be ticked if I bought one off of that recommendation.

Any 7-7.5' H rod will handle the small stuff.

XH for a 5-6" bait?

I like my Okumas and the Loomis BBR that Alpster built for me. Buy an Okuma and take what is left and buy a Mattlures Hardgill.  Perfect.

I guess I'm odd man out then.  I don't throw many soft swimbaits, other than 4" and smaller.  I wasn't thinking of Hudds and the like, I'm throwing more 6-8" hard bodies from guys like Muskie Snax and Crypto that are solid wood.  I've got three snax, for instance, that weigh in excess of 3.5 ounces and they're only a 6" bait.

I'll concede that you're right.  I wasn't thinking of plastics, more solid bodies.

Get it from Tackle Warehouse. I have heard their shipping prices to Canada are reasonable and they have a great selection of products.

Reel would depend on what you are throwing.  Soft baits will benefit from a slower reel and hardbaits from a bit faster reel. Of course, this is just my style and may not exactly work for you.

Again, in my experience, it is easier to have a faster reel and slow down than the other way around.

im on the tackleware house now, its stressing the fact that these rods are not optimal for light and small swimbaits, the mh would be the way to go for me? using 4-6 inch swimbaits?

The 7'6" H will handle 1-2oz baits just fine.

I just got home from using mine throwing a Mattlures hardgill. I can also easily throw a High Power Herring and it weighs around 1.25 oz.

That H is a great all around rod to throw some smaller stuff but still allow you to throw larger should the need arise.

Have the MH, H, & XH rods 7'11".  I think they are great rods and really have the backbone to handle any lure or fish you get on.  Mainly use the H & XH for the swimbaits.  You can throw the larger cranks and 1oz jigs easily with the MH.
