Just need some input from you guys about some rods I want to get soon. I have a Daiwa Zillion rod and was wondering how does these rods compare to it? I'm thinking about the Powell Max, Abu garcia Veritas and Verdict, Bass Pro Carbonlite and Dobyns Savy. I will be using these for flipping and jerkbaits and would like to spend $140.00 or less. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Zillion is the highest quailty on that list but way more than $140.

Dobyns Savy is a close second... People compare them to Avids which is a high compliment.

I have the Powell Max 683C and a crankbait rod... Its was less expensive but is a great rod for the money.

So given this list... Powell Max gets the call for me.

Unfortunately no idea how they compare to the zillion but I own a few rods on the list: 7' MH Veritas, 7' M Carbonlite, 7'3 H Savvy. I could type a detailed description of each but they are all similar IMO.

All the rods balance fairly well, the Dobyns does feel a bit heavier but still feels great. Sensitivity is too subjective for me to comment on. The Veritas reel seat can be slightly uncomfortable at times (not bad by any means) and I find the Savvy/Carbonlite more comfortable.

I haven't had the SS734 long but it's one of my favorites, the action is almost perfect IMO.  With that list I don't think you can go wrong though, just make sure whatever you're buying is comfortable for you (if you can at least).

The Zillion rods are a different league of rods,  the closest to them are the Savvy and Powell...I think the price points are very accurate with these rods for comparisons.

I did vote for the Dobyns as this is all I have any experience with. Please keep in mind that this will be somewhat subjective as most will not have experience with all of these rods and will have their favorites. Unfortunately it will be very difficult for you to handle all of these rods at a single location but the best experience is one you have for yourself. Be careful on making a selection based on this. Many of rod racks are full of rods collectiing dust. I wish I had half the money back that I spent due to this.

I also voted for the Powell Max because that is the only rod i've used.  I have held the verdict and veritas...  Never touched a Dobyns but hopefully that will change.. 

The powell max is a great rod for 139 dollars..  look in the classifieds here.. sometimes you can get one for around a hundred bucks..

My next rod will be either a Verdict/Veritas/Vendetta for frogging...  They are very stout rods..

I have four of the rods on this list.  While the Savvy is my favorite of the four rods, I voted for the Veritas. In terms of pure value for the money, the Veritas is one of the best values out there, IMO.

Powells quality,price,selection and warrenty are hard to beat

The best one that meets this criteria is the Powell 683C at $139.99, though the Dobyns Savvy SS693 is a comparable rod and is only ten dollars more. If you go with Powell and Dobyns rods of 7 feet or longer this will put you at $169 and up and they would no longer meet your requirements.

My friends recently starting getting into powell rods and they love them. They have no complaints and seem very satisfied with the rods.

My vote is for Powell!!  Quality components, lightweight, sensitive and reliable.

That is a very serious statement. I need to pick up a Savy.
