im looking into getting a couple spinning combos for bass for me and my dad and they are about 50$ a piece. Has anyone ever used these? i know they aren't top of the line, i would by a really nice one if i was only buying one but i'm buying a couple. Are these worth it?

Personally, I would pass on the Ugly Sticks in favor of the Berkley Cherrywood rods. They're typically sold at the same retailers, and should run right around $22. Match these with some $30 spinning reels and some Trilene XL and you'll be ready to hit the water.

The Ugly Sticks aren't necessarily bad rods, they're just better suited to live bait or bobber fishing. Now if you were talking about picking up a pair of combos for catfish, I'd say go with the Ugly. 

i tried to talk my dad into getting a baitcaster but he remembers the backlashes from them when he was a kid lol

have improved significantly over the years and

are now "user friendly". I don't think that is true

at the pricing point he has targeted. You should

stay with spinning tackle.

agree with the Cherrywood sticks.

I just checked Walmart's site, and they have an Abu Garcia Cardinal 101 for about $35. Pair that with the Cherrywood and you'll have a much better setup than any pre-packaged Ugly Stick combo for about the same price.

X2  Cherrywoods are much better than the price makes them sound, actually pretty sensitive.

oh yea if i was only going to get a him baitcaster i would get him one so i could put all my 200$ towards it, i couldn't imagine using a 50$ baitcaster..

Cabelas has there Fish Eagle Classic Spinning Combo at half price. $20 if you're interested.
