Just got a BCR852C GLX. I know some of you have one. What's it good for?

Or, more correctly, what do you use it for?

jig & worm

Pretty much any bottom contact application that's lighter than 1/2 ounce.

I use my MH GLX for pretty much everything including jerkbaits, buzzbaits and topwater. This rod has a fast tip than mine though.

1/8-1/4 ounce hair jigs, small jigs like the Bitsy, and the like.  I use it for small spinnerbaits like the Pond Magic, too.  I'll use it for dragging tubes as well.

This is an excellent suggestion... I keep forgetting to add the hornet to my arsenal.

I've been kind of disappointed in my BCR852 GLX. A lot softer than I thought it would be, and far less bottom sensitive than my other BCR GLX rods. I hope you like yours better. It's kind of become my small crankbait rod at this point, and swimming smaller grubs. It hated my Core 50MG7, but it improved with one of my 2010 Premiers. Just still not what I'd hoped for.

Kent, I have one Shimanew reel left. I tried it on the 852, but it just looked funny. Maybe my last remaining Symetre 1000 is too small?

I have the MBR842 matched with a Core 50MG7.

One of those tricked out Floogers should be just

fine. The rod, assuming it is similar to mine, is

too soft for bottom fishing, but is great for "moving"

baits. For example, grubs, Swimming Senko, Keitech

Swing Impact Fat.

I use my MBR 782 much the same as Kent's 842...I also throw wacky rigged senkos with it.  Mine has a REVO STX HS on it, not a shimaneau, but it still seems to work just fine. ;D

I just sold my BCR853, which is the M/H. The 853 was a super rod. I had it paired with a Calcutta 100 DC and #12 Yozuri. The rod was excellent for T-rigged worms and I used it with jigs up to 1/2 ounce. The rod also doubled as a spinnerbait rod.

I would venture to say the 852 would be a great rod also but perhaps for lighter cover/open water worming. Perhaps #8 or #10 mono and T-rig with up up to 1/8 ounce weights and 6 inch worms. Should be a very fun rod.

Don't be fooled by the lightness of the rod. Loomis rods have decent backbone so you'll be surprised at what you can do with that rod. 4" senkos, small Flukes and 6" worms should be perfect.

whatever you do, never tie a 3/16 oz. ballhead/zoom finesse worm on it...forget it, don't try it, don't even bother.

After a little backyard casting, that was my initial take on this rod; flukes, tubes, ikas, etc.

I tried a new Zillion on it, then one of my super tuned Fuegos. The Fuego will stay. The reel has #12 on it right now. I may very well go down to #10.
