Help with an upcoming trip.

Featured Replies

Leaving for Fork early in the morning and i'm pretty bummed out today. The last week has had highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. Its rainy and the 30's right now. Tommorow is supposed to be sunny with snow tonight and only warm to the high 40's. Have a guide booked for Wed., but that doesn't help me tommorow.

Anyways, I kinda have a gameplan from a lot of good stuff provided by Matt Fly, but I usually avoid this kind of weather. However, this trip is planned and the show must go on. Thought I would throw the conditions out there and see if I could get any new ideas.

Info doesn't have to be Fork specific, necessarily, just how you would approach and baits to consider when weather goes from ideal to far less from ideal.

When conditions change for the worse, the fish will generally hunker down, bury themselves in cover and hold tight to structure. You may have to hit them on the head to illicit a strike, chances are they are not going to chase a bait. For me, that means a slower, more precise presentation: jigs and soft plastics.

I am jumping on RW train if it's ok.  I have a tough time typically with less than ideal weather - as seen by my blank yesterday.

My only other thought is cover a little deeper to where you expected them to begin with.

Good problem to have....Fork Good - weather pattern bad!

Go git you some!

Happy Releasing,

mattm,   the first youtube video should help you out with the mud blown creeks.

AS you said, we had 75-80 days this weekend and then got alot of rain and snow last night.

South end of the lake will be clearer water, keep an eye open for Bell, she's warmer due to the underground spring at the mouth, and this spot rarely muddies up.     Still good area.   Always remember to slow down, and the trap bite may be on due to the cool down specially south in the grass.

       Good luck.
