Big Bass in LOZ?

Featured Replies

For those of you in the know, how plentiful are the 8-10lb bass at Lake of the Ozarks? I seem to catch lots of smaller bass but haven't seen any REAL big bass yet this year. I'd really really like to hook into a 10lb fish one of these days, and I'd rather not drive to texas to do it.

They are there. I had a 10+ on while night fishing last year. Don't give up.

If you're looking for 10lb bass I can think of better places in the state to fish than LOZ.  Truman, Table Rock (fishing is tough here though) Cypress lake and Farm ponds come to mind.

The best time to fish for fish over 7lbs at LOZ is the Feb - APR pre-spawn season.  The lake regularly turns over it's share of fish up to 10lbs.  I've had several trips that I've boated multiple fish of 6+ lbs during that time of the year.  The rest of the season you'll be fishing for fish in the 3-5lb range as a good fish.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great fishery and not really hard to fish once you adapt to the lack of natural cover, the boat traffic on the weekends and start to figure out the boat docks along with the associated brush piles.  It just doesn't have a population of fish in the 10lb range, then again, a 10lber anywhere in MO. are few and far between.

Good luck, you never know...

However, if you scale back your expectations a bit,

as J_Zink suggests, I think you will find numbers of

5 lb+ bass.

BTW,

Even though you seen a lot of posts with pictures and

stories about 10+ fish here on the Forum, that is still

a "magic number" throughout the country. Tens are

often caught in the big four states, but they are not

common. For the rest of us, they are very rare.

Well, it wouldn't cost that much!

A trip to Falcon, Amistad, Toledo Bend or Stick Marsh/ Farm 13 might do it if you put in enough time.
