ks cranker
Anyone been fishing any? Hit Clinton Lake for the 1st time Sunday for a little bit - but only got a drum. Threw DT10, spinnerbait, jig, even a spoon. Found a ton of shad in the back of a cove but couldn't find the bass. Water temp was upper 50's. Mainlake water was alright, but following the Rock Creek was pretty muddy. Anyone have some suggestions? Also looking for someone that might be interested in teaming up and figuring out some different lakes around here - Hillsdale, Clinton, and others... ;D
ring fry
Lived in Lawrence for 12 years and only fished Clinton when I had to. There are some decent fish in there but they're tough on the best of days. Try Lone Star. It's about 6 miles south of Clinton. Nothing unusual to have a 20 - 30 fish day with a couple good ones mixed in. Also, Leavenworth Co. St. Lake can be good. Hillsdale used to be pretty good but I've heard it's tough the last couple of years. Look into Smithville as well. There are some pigs up there. Good Luck! Super User skunked_again Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Share Posted November 3, 2008 i fished lone star many times this year and the action was below average at best. miami county has done well (although you have to drive on gravel to get to it) and it was a great year at kill creek. olathe is hit and miss, mostly around the grassy island. make sure you have your pastics with you. ks cranker
Ringfry - I think I'll be checking out Smithville and Lone Star soon - might be tough now with the weather cooling down - have to find them deep I guess.... Skunked - I was out at Lake Olathe a couple weeks ago and they had drained some water out of the lake and all the shoreline grass was completely out of water by several feet. Gardner Lake has been good to me so far... many bass and wipers or white bass killing spinners, lipless cranks, and top water the past couple months... Anyone else in BassResource.com land fishing around KC?
ring fry
On another note, it's about time for La Cygne to turn on as soon as this indian summer goes away.
bconger
I live in Olathe as well. I mainly fish Wolf Creek, Lonestar, Banner Creek, LaCygne etc. I agree with the others, Clinton is a tough lake to fish for largemouth, although usually have some luck in the fall with wipers. I was at Wolf Creek on Sat and saw a guy & his son absolutely wear out the wipers(they spent ~ 4 hours on one spot).

ks cranker
I'm thinking about hitting Gardner Lake on Sat. What time do you think the best fishing would occur? Morning or late afternoon? Have the bass started going deep or are they going to be shallow? Last weekend at Clinton the water temp was mid to upper 50's...
flipinstick88
I have been fishing Shawnee Mission from the bank this year. I have done pretty well, lots of fish between 2-3lbs.
ks cranker
I fished a lot at Shawnee Mission last year from the bank and always had a good time. This year I got a boat and didn't catch many fish off the places I did on the bank, but I also spent a lot of time back in the coves or arms... I've not been out there much lately cause I'm tired of it being an electric only lake Here is my best at SMP from this year....(i know it's nothing worth braging about!) flipinstick88
Thats a good looking fish! What did it weigh? The biggest I have ever caught there have been a little over 3 lb.
ks cranker
Not sure what it weighed. I keep forgetting to buy some scales... normally I just measure them... but didn't on that one. I don't think it was quite 3lbs, but not sure. Might have been around or a little over 18" give or take...
huskertko
Sadly, I have only been fishing about 5 times this year, and only three of them from my boat. :'( None of the trips stand out as good days of catching. I fished SMP a couple times and Kill Creek a couple times, only once at Kill Creek did I catch a limit, and that was from the bank on a very foggy day with a LC Sammy. It has reached a point that I am actually considering selling my 2 person water scamp type boat after having it less than a year, I just can't justify having it and not using it, the only thing that has kept me from selling so far is my wife, she keeps telling me that I will have more time next summer and that I will regret selling it now, so we will see. ks cranker
huskertko sorry to hear you've not been out much - hopefully your wife is right and you'll be able to get out more next year. Anyone caught any smallmouth out at kill creek? Went out there today and caught a few largemouths. First time out there and thought it was a pretty neat lake. Fishin247365
Don't give up on Clinton. Our club has had good luck the last 3 years there. Marina cove, cover on the north shore on the main lake, and up the rivers. They are there! Guy who one it the previous year, had a limit with his smallest fish 20". I got a 5 and 3lb'er there last year during practice. Smithville over the next several years should be dynamite. That lake used to be IT about 15 or so years ago, and now it's rebounded again and has alot of good size fish in it. Don't forget Truman either. From KC you really aren't that far from some of the better fishing in that lake!
Quinn
On another note, it's about time for La Cygne to turn on as soon as this indian summer goes away. That's a power plant lake isn't it?
ring fry
That's a power plant lake isn't it? Yes it is. Hopefully, I'm going to give it a try this Friday for the first time this fall.
Fishin247365
Ring Fry please be sure to post a report when you get back from LaCygne. There is a group of us planning a late December trip down there, and possibly Coffey County as well.
ks cranker
Are there any special rules at La Cygne? I thought i read something about wearing lifejackets at all times?
ring fry
Are there any special rules at La Cygne? I thought i read something about wearing lifejackets at all times? Not at LaCygne, you just have to pay a launch fee of 3 or 4 dollars or a yearly one for 15, I think. You can put in up the river and not pay anything though. At Wolf Creek (Coffee County) you have to wear a life jacket at all times and if the wind picks up too much they will page you on the pager they give you when you check in and you have to get off the lake. Too many drownings a few years back.
ring fry
Well, didn't make LaCygne Friday, so I decided to fish it yesterday in the snow. 3 LM on swimming senko, and 2 whites on a trap. Nothing too exciting but at least I caught something.
