Re: Can I test you guy's new lures
Basslover I suggest you do as I do, as well as many others who watch this board, is marvel at the talents and creations of those posting. Find ones you like alot and ask questions on techniques and tricks to produce similar baits yourself. The posts I have found and watched over the years provide good information on components, tricks, etc. each artist is using, or have used, to create these mini mona lisas. My eyes get to walk through a fine art gallery everyday that I check the tacklemaking forum here. Would love to see what creations you would come up with compiling different things modeled after the various artists you enjoy on the site.

Brush Hogs??????????????
Baby brush hogs work great as trailers. I'll most often bite the top 1/2" off before rigging it on. It is my second favorite jig trailer next to a beaver. Full size, t-rigged brush hogs from late spring on, are hard to beat! IMO They hold onto them alot better than jigs as well. I don't use the zoom brand anymore. Found some that are really loaded with salt and garlic and work much better for me than the zoom's did.

Tubes in Space
I'll sometimes c-rig a tube when working flats or points. Seems to work just fine.

Can anyone help??
barlows.com has them. I had trouble finding them on their site, but they are in their catalog.

Going fishing this afternoon. Need help
60 DEGREES!! That's an enferno!! I don't think we're supposed to be out of the 20's for a whole week. I'm jelous! To answer your question: Not knowing more specifics, I'd try some big 10" or bigger worms. Use a split shot on them about 12-18 inches above the line. Slowly crawl it along the bottom. You might also try a fluke or wacky rigged senko on this same rig. If it's windy, get a spinner bait with willow leaf blades, and toss that around. First thing you do though when you get out there is thank God for the opportunity to get too fish in open water, and not through the ice!

Jig Trailers?
A full size brush hog. Just bite the top off past the arms, or the bulkier beaver baits will slow the fall down as well.

2009 Bass Fishing Goals
1. Win top honors of Mr. Bass in my club. 2. Get my daughter to catch her first bass. 3. Find a woman who likes to fish as much as I do, and has enough money to pay for it all! I have a good chance to hit two of those anyway! ;D

Lakes in KC area
Smithville is really turning on again. If I was in KC I'd be driving a little to Clinton, and getting on Truman. Mozingo is good, but it's NW part of the state. Also around KC is LaCygne which you could fish right now. Power plant lake straight south of KC in Linn County. It has big fish in it! Also hear good things about Lake Olathe. You are around alot of good bass water!

Help locating certain jig
GMAN thanks for the reply. Are there sources that can create production jig molds from stratch? If so do they need a solidworks drawing or solid model before they can create a mold? I'd be interested in creating something similar to these, with different hook sizes, and a few other modifications. The line tie on these are awesome. Thanks in advance for any help.

Help locating certain jig
I'm looking for painted or unpainted jigs in bulk, that have a head and line tie similar to the Terminator Pro Style Top Secret jigs. They have a recessed, horizontal line tie and I am having a hard time locating a source to buy these on line. I am wanting to put my own skirts on them. Would you guys have any ideas for me on where I could find something similar? Here is a link to Terminators website for the jig I'm referencing above. http://www.terminatorlures.com/06site/pros_top_secret_jigs.html

KC Lakes
Ring Fry please be sure to post a report when you get back from LaCygne. There is a group of us planning a late December trip down there, and possibly Coffey County as well.

Nebraska Fishing
How far you willing to drive? Burchard and Iron Horse (Dubois) should be real good before ice. Also get on your local NRD site and check out there lakes as well. We have a couple NRD lakes around where I live that are awesome. Also heard Olive Creek up by Crete is producing alot of fish.

KC Lakes
Don't give up on Clinton. Our club has had good luck the last 3 years there. Marina cove, cover on the north shore on the main lake, and up the rivers. They are there! Guy who one it the previous year, had a limit with his smallest fish 20". I got a 5 and 3lb'er there last year during practice. Smithville over the next several years should be dynamite. That lake used to be IT about 15 or so years ago, and now it's rebounded again and has alot of good size fish in it. Don't forget Truman either. From KC you really aren't that far from some of the better fishing in that lake!

MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT STRUCTURE AND COVER;NATURAL LAKES
Fish it from all sides depending on the types of lures you are using. Fish parrallel to the ledges as well. Choose which side to fish first based on the current stage you feel the bass are in, recent weather, current flow, etc.

Why would anyone...
Maybe not lb for lb, but ounce for ounce, I think bluegill fight harder than any fish I've ever caught. In the black bass family, no doubt smallmouth.

tips on how to approach new lake
I like alot of what I have seen posted. My first thought was a frog bait as well. Try using a buzzfrog, like horny toads and those like it. Rig it on a 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook. Throw it to the bank and bring it off the bank agressively, (just like you see a "real" frog dart from the bank). Let it sit in any slight opening in the grass/weeds/moss you are fishing. Fire up your retrieve again, and keep it moving after you pull if off the edge of the mats. Sounds like a great lake. Grass, moss, reeds, pads, all bass magnets and should get you lickin' your lips! Not because you like moss sam-witches, but because this type of cover is like a big ol' shade tree for bass. They are in there! Just keep yanking all that stuff out of your tackle box and tying it on, until you figure out what they want to eat, or what pi$$es them off.

Bilby Ranch NW Missouri
Never fished it before and will be heading down there soon. What kind of structure and cover is present? Generally what is the water clarity? What kind of depths? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Anybody fishing Kansas or Missouri?
Fished Clinton lake and caught some real nice ones last saturday in the rain. 5lb'er and a 3lb'er. Little tougher bite sunday during tourney with totally different weather conditions. Also fished Banner Creek by Holton a bout a month ago and did fairly well.

Could color be a factor
It most like was a color issue judging from similar past occurances I've had. Usually then I go to more subtle colors then. If they are actually busting the surface, I'd have a weightless senko ready, and handy, to chuck right back in there as quickly as possible. Congrats on your finish. I just finished 2nd in a club tourney a week ago. 2nd place is nice, but first would have been so much better. I, like you, immediately wondered what I could have done different to get them to bite better. Practice day before was raining all day, and 75 degrees, with a light breeze. Tourney day, bright blue skys, 85, and wind about 15-20 mph. A little different conditions, and finally in the afternoon of the tourney was able to figure them out. Again, good job on your finish.

summer/fall fish finding
X2 When it comes to locating fish, I'll throw a buzzbait all day during practice if the conditions allow it. Otherwise you gotta cover water and find the cocentrations of fish, then you can slow down and refine your presentations and try and figure out a pattern. I'll always have a spinner bait tied on,.. 1/2oz when searching so I can get it deeper, cast it farther, and burn it.

Night Fishing???
With all the vegetation you talk about, I'd try some plastic frogs, Spro, Horny Toads, etc. I'd start by working them with a slow steady retrieve. If no strikes, try jerk, jerk, pause, then repeat. Also depending on water clarity, and sky conditions, don't be afraid to throw a white or chrome colored topwater. Especially if the water is somewhat clear and there is a full moon out.
