Good BASS Magazines?
X 2 They have all the info you'd need that possibly the forum might not cover. I've learned much more from the various forums I frequent than the magazines.

Nebraska Hogs! pics
Iron horse is about the same acreage as burchard, but is alot different than burchard. We didn't see much vegitation at all. A lot more trees. As far as my pick for an April outing and could only choose one, it'd be Burchard. It gets pressured pretty good, so don't be afraid to change up your lure selection or presentation a little.

Worm fishing
Try adding some attractant, and try waiting to set the hook right away at the first tap. Often small bream or other sunfish will tick, tick, tick those type of worm tales. So if you are not landing any, you might move to another spot. Good luck!

Results...
Krugey nice pictures and thanks for sharing. That being said, hang on to your shorts!! I anticipate a verbal spanking from many members for not throwing the big one back or releasing all of them for that matter. How big was that big one?

Nebraska Hogs! pics
Burchard is in good shape right now. The problem with the dam will continue as the cost for repair are rumored to be to expensive. It leaks in the spill tube constantly, the only time when the water gets real low is late summer. But with all the rain this area continues to receive, there are no worry's there!! Another 4.5" last night! As far as the fishing, there's not a ton of visiable shoreline cover to fish. I like jigs when I do find some wood, buzzbaits all the time, spinner baits thru the grass, and senko's. When the water is real clear hard to beat a weightless fluke. I went there about a month ago and I had one small fish around 14", all others were over 17". Also try Iron Horse down by DuBois why you are in the area. Fished that for the first time about a month ago. Awesome place as well.

Full Moon
New moons have always seemed to be more productive for me than a full moon. But I seldom pay much attention to the moon phases as I do the barometric pressure. Ether way, new moon, wax on - waning off, low pressure, high pressure, etc. I go as much as I possibly can.

Spreading the sport.
The easiest way to spread the sport is just what you did and take someone "new" out with you. Be it young or old! I took my son and 3 of his buddies (9 year olds, I know I'm brave!) out last year, and all three of his friends caught their first ever bass. Two of them, it was their first ever fish! Everytime I see them they want to go! Doing whatevever we can to get a first timer on some fish is key. Especially with youngsters, you gotta get a fish on the end of their line. You all know,..... that's all it takes to create another one of "us"!!

Your Go To Lure
This year a spinnerbait. Last year a senko. Next year ???

Red Willow, NE
Fished Red Willow in a club tournament last year in May. Water was still low some. I would imagine with all the recent rain we've received lately it is up. Lots of rock in the backs of some of those coves. I recall pretty clear water with a slight stain in some areas. That was my first time there, and we spent most of our time in the coves on the north side of the lake. Be cautious about throwing a spook or sammy as they got a healthy population of wipers and some pike as well. Also since you will be in the area, don't rule out going to Harlan Co. It's back full again, and there are bass having a hay day in all of the new flooded cover. Good luck to you!

new to fishing for bass take any secrets
I would recommend trying just a couple different baits and/or techniques at first. Carolina rig and a spinner bait. Keep it simple on bait colors. Light for clearer water and dark for muddy or stained water. When fishing plastics of any type and you are not catching anything, slow down, then slow down some more. Cast your spinnerbait or plastic rig as close to the cover as you can. Good luck and welcome to bass fishing! Just be prepared for "impulse" purchases, common referred as "bait monkey attacks"!! They can be vicious!! :)Also check this forum routinely. There is more information here that you can imagine, and members are more than eager and happy to answer questions (to the best of their knowledge anyway). ;D

Walking the Frog???
When you are trying to walk any type of bait, leave some slack in your line. Don't reel when you twitch. When I walk a frog, I just twitch it a couple tugs at a time. When it darts left or right then back the other way, with slack in the line, it is really erratic. This is by far the best success I've had with a spro style frog. Horny toads, and others like it, I slowly swim. And on the lakes I fish (KS, NE, MO), the frog bite usually doesn't heat up till summer. When I go pond fishing, I always have one ready.

Scientific approach to bass fishing
To each his own! I personally find the scientific side of bass fishing intriguing, and am constantly looking for articles and other resources that feed this curiosity. This post is what makes this forum so great. So many different levels of knowledge, perspectives, likes/dislikes, but all containing the same passion.....we all love bass fishing! Tight lines to all!

When to change lure weight??
They hit it whenever the bait was moving regardless if it was on the fall, bouncing it, crawling it, etc.

When to change lure weight??
Just got done with a tourney today and we were on the fish. I eventually caught a limit and did ok, but I think I could have yanked in some of the big ones my non boater caught, if I would have downsized my weight earlier. We were flipping and pitching the same lure, except mine was 1/2 oz and his was 3/8 oz. As soon as I downsized to a 3/8 weight on my t-rig and on my jig, I started sticking them good. What factors do most of you consider when determining weight size? I usually determine size of weight simply on water depth, just something I overlooked today for a while.

What would you throw in this situation?
Not knowing alot more specifics about the water, I'd have a buzzbait, chatter style bait, and jig with rattles with a large trailer tied on. We got a lot of rain around SC NE last couple weeks and the water we fished last weekend was muddy. I caught a bunch of post spawn fish sunday with jigs with full size brush hog as trailers. Also with it as windy as it was last weekend, I through a spinnerbait a bunch and picked up a bunch of shorter fish. Chuck a spinnerbaiit or chatterbait and buzzbait till you locate some fish, then slow way down when you throw your jig or large profiled plastics. Good luck!

Nebraska Bassers
Fairbury angler here. Our club primarily fish lakes in Kansas, but there are a couple small lakes within 25 minutes of Fairbury I like to fish during the week. Both are drastically different types of waters so they are good to go practice on. Good fishing to all! Probably none of you guys on here today with that spring game thing going on. I am not a Husker fan by any means, but I sure hope Bo gets things figured out a little for you guys. I'm sick of going to work and seeing grown men cry when things didn't go well on Saturdays.

The ice is getting thin!!!!!!
KU Bassmaster there's some open water at LaCygne south of Kansas City on Hwy 69. Gotta head down there. I was seeing some ponds and rivers starting to open up alittle (SC Nebraska) until this weather came blowing in yesterday. 50 degrees one day and 13 the next! Not fun. Some of the midlake ice on a couple area lakes are stilll 5 to 6 inches thick. All you southerners pray for warm weather for those of us who feel the need to remain up here in gods country! Were its 100 degrees in the summer and 2 degrees in the winter!

Im in a SLUMP
Clear that head of yours and through your confidence baits. Being a successful fisherman or having success on an outing, is heavily reliant on being focussed and confidence in your baits and presentations. Forget about everyone else and what they are doing or success they are having. If you ask questions of guys that are finding success, ask depth they are fishing, color of water, line size. You'll figure it out, just got to throw out all of the negative thoughts floating around in there and replace them positives!

fishing creeks?
Judging by your display name, I think I know what lake you are fishing. My guess is Milford? I fish there in club tourney last several years and when I'm not in a tourney I'm down there with the kids. I usually don't have much luck in the creek channels that much. However most all of the largemouth seem to remain in the creeks year round. Find the deeper creeks and buts out a carolina rig, big heavy jig that will allow you get down fast, and wiggle warts. If you find the creeks with nice depth changes and some rock close by you'll find some largemouth. If you find largemouth on Milford they are usually nice fish. Otherwise grab some jigs and craw colored crankbaits and bang around the rocks off of points and the dam for smallmouth.
