i live on the largest lake in kansas and half of it is pretty much silted it. there are some good major creeks that run into the lake and they have lots of stumps and wood cover. however they have mud bottoms and are 8 feet deep max. i was wondering if anyone else has fished a creek like this and if they caught any fish. i am trying to get away from the crowded banks and i never see anyone go up these. any help would be appreciated.

yea the lakes around here i fish alot of creek bays and eddies   i do really good on t rig worms and spinnerbaits   small cranks work well around stomps

You really aren't going to know for sure unless you fish it.

I do best with tubes in creeks. A whole bunch of crayfish in creeks so you can never go wrong with throwing a tube.

I'll second that.  When I don't feel like trying hard in a creek, I'll just throw out a tube and catch bass, panfish, and occasionally catfish.

You need to find a hard bottom. Are there any bridges that cross over the creek. If you get to much rain, it will mud up and probally not be worth your time. This time of year in your climate, warmer days will probally produce best.

I use finesse worms alot this time of year. Tubes,crankbaits,and spinnerbaits work on the right days.

Get up in there and try it out, you might find a new hot spot or just a place to have lunch.          The baits the others guys mentioned are a great place to start.

Judging by your display name, I think I know what lake you are fishing. My guess is Milford? I fish there in club tourney last several years and when I'm not in a tourney I'm down there with the kids. I usually don't have much luck in the creek channels that much. However most all of the largemouth seem to remain in the creeks year round. Find the deeper creeks and buts out a carolina rig, big heavy jig that will allow you get down fast, and wiggle warts. If you find the creeks with nice depth changes and some rock close by you'll find some largemouth. If you find largemouth on Milford they are usually nice fish. Otherwise grab some jigs and craw colored crankbaits and bang around the rocks off of points and the dam for smallmouth.
