2009 Bass Fishing Goals

Recommended Posts

What are some things yall would like to accomplish in 2009 as far as fishing goes?

For me, being that I'm relatively new to fishing.

1. Id like to move from catching big numbers of small bass 1-3 pounds. And start targeting Big Bass using big baits. I'M hoping for DD in 2009!!

2. Start using a drift sock on the Jon boat and master boat positioning.

3. Start using a double anchor system so I can more thoroughly fish a targeted area, without drifting away.

I've got two:

#1) Start fishing super...super slow.

#2) Work on that football jig some more.

First goal. Have fun.

Others: Learn to use jigs, jig n pig, drop shotting, shakey heading, and crankbaits. Most of my fish are caught in shallow water of five feet or less. Try new places.

Last goal. Have fun.

Catch bigger fish...

I'll bet that one tested the meddle of that new Curado E. ;D

Careful what you wish for though, anything bigger might warp those graphite side plates on those reels. :D

I want to get better at locating fish.

I've caught them on just about everything this year, just not the numbers I'd like to see.

I also want to fish some different waters.

1. Fish more - I got my boat in mid-August, gutted it, and gave it a facelift. Gustav hit in September. I was able to take my boat out only a handful of times. >:(

2. Eliminate unproductive water/establish a pattern water quicker

3. Increase my confidence in jigs, spinnerbaits, and finesse techniques

4. Utilize a fishing log/database to better understand what happens when I'm on the water

That's my No. 1 problem other than that It's using swimbaits more and I would like to learn more about jigging. Also I would like to start fishing deeper for them big bass.

As of right know I catch 70% of my fish on topwater the other 30% is a mix of crankbaits, soft plastics, and spinnerbaits

I also want to beat my PB of 9 lbs 8 ozs but around here that's going to be hard to do.  THIS ONE IS GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE WHILE ;D

Fishing productive spots more thoroughly instead of bringing four rods to only throw a jig all day long, jumping from spot to spot.

1- Be more efficient on the water IE. Eliminate unproductive water faster and, once I have developed a pattern, sticking to it until it tapers out.

2- Learn how to fish structure better whether it is as simple as fishing stuff you can't see as well as points, humps, ledges, etc.

3- Cash atleast 3 checks in the Shenandoah division BFL's next year and make the regional. (I would really like to finish in the top 10)

4- Make the necessary changes on the water faster.

I'll stop there.  There are a bunch more but they get pretty lofty after these.   ;D

Good thing you changed the background... you don't want anybody stealing that "Toad" infested water  ::)

I've found that I do better at reaching new vistas by setting goals to improve on the basics. I'll continue to strive to improve at locating productive areas, and at fishing the right structure at the right time. I think these will be my goals every year. The main goal is to enjoy what I'm doing.

1. Win top honors of Mr. Bass in my club.

2. Get my daughter to catch her first bass.

3. Find a woman who likes to fish as much as I do, and has enough money to pay for it all!

I have a good chance to hit two of those anyway! ;D
