Bull shoals and White river fishing, what to sotck up on?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I will be heading to Bull shoals in a week wondering whats good for the river and the lake. I have what I would call a basic set of tackle, little bit of everything. I read the fishing reports and wrote down some things but am mainly asking for colors.

Also the report was vague whne it mentioned the white river. What works best for the trout down there? Thanks

Hey there demon. I am pretty familiar with those bodies of water. You will be impressed if you know how to fish deep. White River on the other hand changes daily. They should be done letting the water out for now. I think youll do good with a can of corn on white river for trout. Unless your a fly fisherman then i cant help you. We dont do much trout fishing cause they are fairly easy if you know some spots. I just use a spinning rod with light line with a split shot a bit above the hook say 6-8 inches. Then use a small barbed or barbless worm hook and load it down with corn. They love it. Bass will be offshore on bull shoals depends on where you are on the lake. I have a few hotspots but the fishing gets tough this time o year. Later, clint

Give Dawg a call and tell him Kent Smith sent you to him.

I'll be there in two weeks (7/23-7/26) with a few guys. We

target big German Browns, but if it's numbers you are after,

no problemo!

Hot Dawg will give you some advice and next time, hire him

for a day or two. You will catch some trout on your own, but

with Tim, a 30-50 fish day, per person, is pretty common.

You can use bait for trout, but considering that you have a chance at huge Browns, ask your guide what they recommend, but usually it'll be jerkbaits like the XRap in size 08 and 10 or Rogue Jr. and cranks like the Shad Rap. Last report from someone I know has the new XRap shad in regular and shallow versions nailing big fish. Another fun option is Little Cleo spoons or Vibrax and Mepps spinners.

Let them swing across and down in the current-the fish hook themselves. Colors? A few bright (yellow/orange) a few dark, a few subtle, natural colored models. Experiment.

Lot's of fish in the White.

I've had days of flyfishing down there where I don't know how many fish I caught. Conventional tackle is so easy, you can catch 100 fish in a good day, easy.

Bull Shoals lake will require some deep fishing, drop shot, and stuff like that. Again, a guide will help.

I'd fish the river this time of year. Cooler, more fish.
