Lake Fork, Tx

Featured Replies

I will be fishing on Lake Fork twice this year. I will be there 3/24-3/27 and 4/28-5/1. I will be staying at Fisherman's Cove Marina. My brother(who lives in Tx) and I have fished there before with minimal success. We like to fish the Mustang/Little Mustang area. I was hoping for some suggestions on techniques/locations. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Do a search here for Tom_ Redington ;)

You will be there at the right time for the spawn. Do not forget forget to fish Williams also as it is as good as it gets. I have caught 4 over 9pounds out of Williams. The back of Mustang is a good spawn area but with the water being so low the pattern will be different this year as the grass will be harder to find. When you find some--wear it out!!! I believe in Fork -- if you are not cussin the grass, you are not catchin the bass.

Most of my successes at Fork come on Texas Rigged Watermelon Red Flake Flukes or wacky worms for unders and slot fish although one of my 9's came on a fluke last year.

For big mommas I have had much better success with a watermelon colored jig with a watermelon red flake chunk.

Lizards work great for sight fishing.

My #1 Lake Fork tip is to be on the lake when everyone else is in the bed or bar. I can catch early until the boats start running then the fish pull back into deeper water until the boats stop running in the evening. Most of my big fish have been really early or happy hour in the evening or after dark.

When the boats start running in the morning--about 8-9am, fish deeper, when the boats stop about 5pm pull back up on the banks.

I have a place just across from where you will be staying and will be there prefishing for a tournament so if I can help just let me know.

Thanks! Yeah we like to fish around what I believe is called "pony" island. We do well just before dark at the "inlet" between the island and land. I lost a monster there last spring on a 3/4 oz. lipless. Weak rod = weak hookset.

The lake is about 4 feet low and the cut between the island and land is about 1 foot deep now.

Is rain in the forcast?

Yes there is rain on the way but they are drawing water out of the lake for Dallas and that is why it is low. It will take LOTS of rain to bring the lake up 4 feet.

Lots of stumps, lots of lower units on the bottom of the lake. Even going into Birch there is a 3 foot diameter stump right at the water line IN THE BOAT LANE. By the last buoy going into Dale -- same thing. Please be careful. Fishing has been fantastic with some 60 fish days and lots of double digit bass already this spring and should get even better. I look for some Share-A-Lunkers to come from Fork with the full moon in March and April.

The bass just get HAMMERED so try to do something different than everybody else such as fishing humps, points, old tree lines, fence rows, road beds, or creek channels. Just beating the banks can make for a VERY long day.

I should be checking in late on 3/24. Are you gonna be around? I'm not bringing my laptop(screw work).

I sure will. I am fishing the Ram Tournament on Sunday 3-27 so I will be prefishing starting that Tuesday or Wednesday. I will be there the rest of the month. I will pm you with my phone number.

should be there sunday march 20th through the next saturday. my dad is freaking out because of the low water and lack of grass. Also the lack of real good reports, im still more than up for the challenge! i just have to keep his mood good.

What area will you be fishing?

should be there sunday march 20th through the next saturday. my dad is freaking out because of the low water and lack of grass. Also the lack of real good reports, im still more than up for the challenge! i just have to keep his mood good.

The fish are still in the lake- we just have to find and entice them.   ;)

thats what i tell him, the fish didnt dissapear into thin air.. there still there and we intend on catching them..

no matter how this trip goes i still call it better than work or sitting at home, or fishing around here right now.. i just really like this lake, it will be my 8th time down there couldnt think of anything else id rather do this time of year

I agree, Lake Fork in March is better than Quincy, ILL.

The thing I keep telling myself is that someone on any given day has figured out the puzzle of location and presentation and are catching fish. It is normally not an easy thing on Fork.

As I have said many times, I call Lake Fork "Lake Lottery," as I may not win the big prize but it is there for the taking but someone will win it and it is worth playing the game.

IMO other than Falcon it is still the best lake in the country for catching monster bass, and I have never heard of Pirates on Lake Fork. ;)

Hope you have a good trip.

I'm about 3 weeks out, looking forward to it. A little uneasy about the lower water, and the "new" stumps in boat lanes.
