Smallie trip 5/7

Featured Replies

My buddy Don has been bugging me to get him out on this Smallie pond (cartopper only)I've been fishing for a few years now. I'm guessing It's about 50 acres, with all the bear cans, litter and lures(especially the ones placed in the tree at the launch ) looks like it's not much of a secret anymore The plan was to guide him around and put him on fish. Well it worked like a charm and he had one of his best days ever. It's always a good idea to keep anyone over 400lbs as happy as possible We put in around 5:45 AM and fished until 3:30. Fish were breaking the surface hitting bugs all over the place, 15 minutes in not another surface crash, tough to keep Don quite at his size, when he sneezes the jon boat moves about 4 feet Scoped the beds from start to finish. from start to about 10AM beds had bucks on them. 10:30 to 11:30 beds went bare. 11:30 to 2:30 Females moved in all squeezing eggs, 2:45 bare again 3:pm bucks back up and spooky as all get out! Only one LM all day, smallest SM around 2lbs average fish went between 2.5 and 3lbs with the two biggest going around 4lbs. Totals for the day were 26 fish going over 70lbs! What a great day and couldn't have asked for better weather. All Don's fish came on the watermelon/red fleck Arkie and mine on the White Bico w/white single tail grub.
