Lexington KY lakes??

Featured Replies

I am going to Lexington KY for a few days on business.

Any big lakes down there that I could hire a guide on that are within an hour of downtown Lexington?

Thanks,

Bob

Dale Hollow and Lake Cumberland aren't an hour from Lexington... not by a long shot.

However... though I'm not familiar with Lexington, being much further away.... you could try Guist Creek Lake... its tiny and you definately wouldn't need a guide... and Taylorsville lake.

but I'm guessing at an 1 1/2 hours to GCL and 2 maybe to Taylorsville.

Maybe an hour to Cave Run.  You may not find a bass guide there but you sure will find some for Musky.

Nice bass in the lake though.  I saw pics of an 8 that got pulled out of there this spring.

lake herrington is down that way

might be able to find someone to take you down there

if you want a good smallie stream that you can fish go up to georgetown ky and rent a kayak and go down stream and fish

i think it is elk creek not sure been years there is a guy that posted in the other forum in the WV thread about the new river

he lives in lexington

also go to backwaters bait shop off of new circle road

great shop lots of lures and smart guys that can help you out

i live only 20 mins. from lexington. the only BIG lakes that are near by are taylorsville lake, herrington, and numerous small lakes. most are between  1 1/2 - 2 hours away.  now, to be honest with you, elkhorn creek is a SUPERB smallmouth bass fishery, and most of the creek is easily asscesible for a small boat or wading. all you really need is an ultralight spinning outfit, and a small box full of small cranks and jigs and your set. a place you might want to check out is a small lake called cedar creek lake. its about 2-2 1/2 hours from lex, and is the only lkae in the state that is completly devoted as a trophy bass fishery. its only been there since 2002, and the lake record is a 7.10 already.

Go to cedar creek lake and catch some nice bass! End of story. :)
