here is a quality 5+ lbs long island new york bass caught on a med. splitback jitterbug it was overcast today and i got to fish from a small jon you can see the amount of cover this fish had to play in and we

also have crayfish natrually occuring here(rare on long island i think).

hopefully before the summer is over i will pull the suffolk county catch and release record for 2008 from this spot

thnx guys that is actualy only a small portion of the lake and its al flooded timber

There is a very simalar looking pond a few of towns away from me that I fished a few weeks ago. Of course I was hoping for bass but i got a couple of pickeral (one of them 16 inches) and a couple of yellow perch.

I cant explain it but just the look of a flooded stump field like that makes me think there would or should be bass there.

I'm still not 100% convinced there wasnt, so I'll try again earlier in the AM

see when people respond with positive things its nice thanks pain its a new spot weve only fished a handfull of times but in the past couple months four fish over 5 pounds have been cuaght and get this ,released !! from here and one was ten pounds!! believe what you will macmaster but real men dont need to lie we all have fish tales about the one that got away but you can see this fish is well over 2#'s.

u sure thats a 5 pounder? doesnt look much over 2 lbs :-X

i would say its much closer to 5 than 2... probally around 4 to 4 1/2

anyway i'm thinking about using the mans c4 shallow cranks at this spot now ,trying to expand my bassabilities if you will.Does anyone feel particular about one bait over another,I dont want to wearout the jitterbugs ability by introing it too much.Is this good logic or should I pull the reigns back and stick to what i've learned so far?

I dont know. Thats a good question.

Though I seem to find different ponds of fish will feed on different things more agressivly.

For instance: I fished 1 pond that primarily the LMB would hit earth worm with no weight or bobber. Then at another pond they will only hit live. Then at another they seem to love minow type lure's.

Its hard to figure but I just go with the flow. But as far as would a particualr bait get over used?? I guess its possible but if thats what they hit, who are we to question it.

BTW, I went across the sound to Northport yesterday. Nice place. Did a little salt water before we headed out and my son caught a beautiful striper.
