The Bass Still Biting ??

Featured Replies

Are the bass still biting this time of the season?? I live up north in Massachusetts and i have not had any time to fish lately. I have the day off tomorrow and i wanna hit up this pond down the road that's stocked with fish every year. I signed up here and wanted to find out first before i head out. Someone told me that the bass are trying to eat everything this time of the year right before the cold winter is that true??

I am having a hard time locating them. They were biting like crazy a week and a half ago, but now they have lock jaw. I am guessing the water temps by me have dropped way down (I should take the temp) and they have become inactive. I also need to check in the deepest spots at the pond I have been fishing at. I am sure they are there, but just less aggressive...

Alright, Ill give it a try then :D

Grab a couple beers and dress warm

Smaller ponds will start to become less productive now but lakes in the north should be great fishing the next couple weeks.  Ponds cool down much quicker so it seems they become less productive quicker.  You can still catch them but some may be deeper and it may be better to fish at the hottest part of the day.  There definetely still biting though

Have you tried crankbaits or spinnerbaits?

What about topwaters?

Shaky heads on the bottom?

Wacky worms under docks and piers.

Buzzbaits pulled across and near any wood in the water?

Just wondering.  :D

Who ever that someone was, they told you right! The bite still on Florida, the coldest it's gotten all year in about 60* and the big baits are working! Caught a 7" bass on a 6" worm?? This time of year, the basses eyes are particularly bigger them their stomachs! It's a great time of year to get out the 10" worms, musky spinners (yes for bass) and anything big. If you use what you would use most of the time and catch nice bass, all you will get now is dinks with the same lures!

Good luck to ya!

Welcome aboard!

You stand to get better answers in this regional section regarding

fishing in Massachusetts. Guys here won't pop-off about the fishing

patterns in southern Florida.

I've had a lot of luck on inline spinners lately, hit Horn Pond in Woburn, the Charles and Lake Chauncey over the past weekend.  Some dinks, a pickerel and a couple of good ones (2-3 lbs).  Bite is still on I hope for another weekend I hope.

Well i went yesterday and had no luck. Their in there though

bunch of guys were fishing for trout and had no luck all day. Right when i was leaving a guy pulled in a small rainbow trout (never seen one caught before) real pretty fish with the pink.

He was using power bait and a slider to keep the bait floating. I might go and try that Saturday.

I live in Westport, Mass.  They were still biting on Monday.  Hope to find out if they still are tomorrow.

By the way, I fish a very small pond, one quarter mile at its widest, and just over a half mile long.  It's also shallow.  Except for three small holes, maybe springs, it's only six to six and a half feet deep.

I'm still catching them right along the shore and in water that's three to four feet deep.  Most of them have been close to the weed line along the shore, or in what's left of the lily pad beds.

In the past week, I've also caught some lunker pickerel about 30 inches in length.  My best in this pond was when I was a kid.  Pulled a 36 inch pickerel from its depths or shallows.  Then put it back after admiring it for a few seconds.  That was about forty years ago.

Most of the recent fish I have caught have been on a Chatterfrog.

The bite has actually picked up for me after about a month of garbage. Last sat got a 5lber in my fav local spot then Sun in the same spot got a few 2lbers. Hit it after banging in today and got a 4. All wacky rigging. I also caught a monster pik. I might so out early sun morn.

I got out today, but could only fish close to the north shore.  The wind was howling.  Caught two decent bass, one went about 4 pounds.  Both on Chatterfrogs.

But, they were both lethargic, no fight at all.  The four pounder took the lure right at the boat.  I lifted its head out of the water, and all it did was wiggle a bit.

We've had cool weather and a lot of wind so no doubt the water in the shallows had cooled a few degrees.  Didn't have the fish finder in the water, so I don't know how much the water temp had dropped.

Only fished an hour and a half, or so.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a bluebird day with light winds.  Winds westerly at six knots or less.
