Welcome aboard!

8-)

I went to school in Terre Haute just north of many pits and fished them a fair amount, This was a long time ago so what I say is based on that old experience modified with what I would do today.

First I'd search the bottom for structure and cover. I'd place some cover on any significant structure. If I didn't find good looking structure, i.e. points, humps etc I'd probably try to create some over time. Dropping a few trees in the water creates shore line cover and sinking brush etc. can create deeper holding ares for bait fish

I'd probably fish with Crigs, drop shots and jigs more but I wouldn't rule out spinner baits, cranks and surface baits. As I recall the waters were very clear so I'd use fluorocarbon or light line in the 6# area on my spinning outfits and fluorocarbon on my baitcasters except for surface lures.

basser:  I live near tons of strips pits in the sullivan area and fish minnehaha and dugger unit quite frequently... where abouts is your pit located?   They can be very hard are quite easy to fish, depending on the individual pit and its available structure and cover.    I have actually did quite well this time of year fishing deep drop offs ( 45- 65 ft ) with jigs.  Spring time is tricky because the water is so spooky and usually close quarters that you will have trouble sneaking up on fish.  Try small lures with long casts.  If you give me some more detail... ie location, clarity, weeds, structure, cover, etc I will try to help you out some more... they offer good opportunities.

small world...have been to sullivan many years ago and have probably fished those same pits.

nice town.

Well, do you have any electronics on your boat? Then look for any change in depth you know humps and such. I would say start on North and NorthWest parts of the lake. They should warm up quicker. Seek shallows close to depth change. Also you should probably just have me out to fish it with you. I live in Indy. But have boat will travel.......................

So what's up? Any reports? Have you fished the pit again? Have you done any good? Do tell
