Fishing Merrimac River in lowell/chelmsford area.

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone has fished this stretch of the river, this early?  I just checked out the ramp and everything is clear to launch.  Has anyone had success this time of year or is it just a good chance to get out and run motor to check any problems pre-season.  I was thinking in the afternoon on a nice day.

Thanks

I have never fished this water, is it usually pretty productive during the warmer months?  I may make my way there next sat just to get the boat out and work off a little rust.

Boots,

I work in chelmsford right near the boat ramp off of 3A.  I live about an hour west in ashburnham.  I just figured with the ramp that close I could pull the boat to work and get a couple hours in every so often. I have never fished it either. How are the rocks out there?

i've never ran into rock trouble above the falls, however there are a few big rocks up towards the tynsborough bridge.  if you somehow manage to get below the falls there are tons of rocks.

ooh i live about 10 minutes away from there in dracut

Can you guys give us the directions to the ramp on 3A? Live down in Hopkinton and might like to take a trip up there. I have a 16 alum .

How far can you travel from there and in what direction?  Thanks

i will get the directions in a bit but you can only travel about a mile or so to the left of the ramp because there is a waterfall, but if you go right you can go really far.

bad with road names but where is 3a?  if you want the ramp in lowell here it is

this location will put you about 100 yards away from the boat ramp (mapquest it)

500 pawtucket blvd

lowell, Massachusetts 01854.  the boat ramp has about 75 parking spots it's pretty big and it's across from a big building called TYCO.  i assume you will be coming from the bridge but once you see a bowling alley that's directly across from the rourke bridge you want to head towards jj boomers and the lot should be on the left within the next 5-30 seconds.   sorry for the crappy directions but it's the best way i could describe it.

Hi all, The TYCO building across from the launch is now called COBHAM, I work there. but have never fished in that area cause I come down from out of state. However, I have heard some of the guys at work talking about good SM fishing under or around a railroad bridge close by.

Good Luck

JB
